38-year-old Dwight Burton of Johnson City will appear in Johnson City Court Friday afternoon, he faces charges of murder & arson in connection with the house fire at 145 Floral Avenue in Johnson City early Monday morning. 2 women were injured & were sent to the Upstate University hospital burn unit in Syracuse, 2 small boys died in the fire.

State Police arrested 34 year old Zenaida Montanez of Endwell, for driving while impaired by drugs, criminal possession of a weapon & criminal possession of a controlled substance they also arrested 60 year old Gulberto Montanez of Endwell for 2 counts of criminal possession of a weapon & 1 count of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Trooper’s responded Wednesday afternoon to a report of a vehicle driven by a woman while a man was seen holding a handgun on State Route 17 in Vestal, Troopers found the vehicle in the Town of Dickinson; police found weapons and crack cocaine. Zenaida Montanez was issued a ticket returnable to the Town of Dickinson on November 3rd while Gulberto was arraigned & was remanded to the Broome County jail with no bail set.

The State Assembly Task Force on the Heroin crisis held their 6th forum in Binghamton this week, local assemblyman Cliff crouch serves on that task force. Crouch told WCDO News that law enforcement officials testified that more has to be done from outside law enforcement:

Crouch also said that part of the problem is that insurance and Medicaid covers 3 days of coverage after an overdose, which usually needs 7 days to get passed the high pain levels of withdrawal from heroin.

State Police arrested 26-year-old Joshua Gould of Exeter for 3rd degree Assault, criminal obstruction of breathing and unlawful imprisonment. The arrest occurred after a report of a domestic dispute Tuesday in the Town of Exeter. Troopers determined that Gould allegedly physically restrained his Girlfriend, chocked her and caused an injury to her head. Gould was arraigned and was remanded to the Otsego County jail in lieu of $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond & an order of protection was issued.

The Delaware county Chamber of Commerce has a new executive director. Former Director Ray Pucci of the town of Meredith returned October 1st, replacing Mary Beth Silano who relocated to Connecticut. Pucci served as Delaware county Chamber executive director through 2001 when he took a position at Coldwell banker Timberland Properties in Margaretville.

Governor Cuomo signed multiple pieces of legislation designed to protect and further women’s equality in New York State. The new laws will help achieve pay equity, strengthen human trafficking laws and protections for domestic violence victims and end pregnancy discrimination in all workplaces. The Governor also announced that New York State has allocated a total of $6.4 million for Sexual Assault Prevention and Assistance providers across the State.
