The New York State of Health Marketplace will begin its annual open enrollment period tomorrow through January 31st, for health insurance coverage in 2020.  Current enrollees may begin renewing coverage on November 16th.   Consumers can enroll in a health plan by at 1-855-355-5777, nystateofhealth.ny.gov or with an assistor, who can be accessed at nystateofhealth.ny.gov/agent.

Clocks will get turned back 1 hour this Saturday night, as part of the Daylight Savings Time System; local fire departments urge residents to replace the batteries in their smoke detectors, or replace the old detectors with the new ones with 10 Lithium Batteries this weekend.  Dave Welch of the Unadilla Fire Department explains:

Statistics show that in 60% of fire deaths, there was no smoke detector present, & in over 40%, the smoke detectors didn’t work or had no batteries.  New York is leading the nation with 92 civilian fire deaths this year.

The Oneonta Police Department announced that Due to today’s inclement weather, the 2019 Halloween parade and cider & donuts in the Parking Garage have been cancelled. There will be no makeup date.  Destination Oneonta’s Main Street Trick or Treating event will move forward as planned.

Governor Cuomo signed legislation to establish a uniform poll closing process on election nights and authorize the consolidation of certain election districts with fewer than 10 eligible voters.  This new law establishes a uniform procedure for winding down poll sites across the State at the end of an election day.  This law takes effect immediately

Free, 5-gallon pails of remixed exterior latex paint will be available beginning Monday, November 11th to non-profit agencies and Otsego County residents.  The paint will be available free of charge on a first come first serve basis.   The paint was collected as part of the county’s annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day held this past September.  Paint collected during the event was re-mixed and packaged for distribution by Golden Artist Colors; more information is available at 547-4225.

State Police conducted an Underage Drinker Initiative detail on Thursday, October 24th, in Otsego and Delaware Counties.  19-year-old Clarence Vanier at Taylors Mini Mart at 472 East Main Street in Oneonta was issued an appearance ticket for Unlawful Sale of Alcohol to a Minor, he will appear in the Oneonta City Court on November 18th.
