Otsego County Department of Health reported 21 new COVID 19 cases Wednesday, the county remains at a High level of community transmission. The CDC & Otsego County Department of Health recommend everyone, even those who are fully vaccinated, to continue to wear a mask indoors in public if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission, to maximize protection from the Delta variant and prevent possibly spreading it to others. Otsego County reports a Vaccination Rate of 56.1% of total population fully vaccinated.

Acco Brands in Sidney presented a $1,000 check today to the Sidney Veteran’s Memorial Park Committee, to help continue upgrades & improvements at the park, Committee member Tom Ruff commented the ceremony this afternoon:

Ruff said that they are currently working with an area contractor to determine the costs of the projects and hope to have the projects completed next year.

Beginning today and extending well into December, the Susquehanna Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is hosting a pop-up thrift shop in the Southside Mall. For a split of the proceeds, the Delaware Valley Humane Society, Heart of the Catskills Humane Society, and Super Heroes in Ripped Jeans will assist the SQSPCA in recruiting volunteers to cash out customers and mind the store. The SQSPCA Pop-up Thrift Shop will be open Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays through December 19. More information is available at sqspca.org, or 607-547-8111, extension 108.

The State Police, the State DOT and the Thruway Authority announced that State Police and local law enforcement agencies issued a record number of tickets during 2021’s Operation Hardhat, which is a joint initiative to crack down on work zone violations and highlight the importance of safe driving when encountering construction, maintenance and emergency operations along state highways. A total of 2,336 tickets were issued during Operation Hardhat details this year, breaking the previous record of 2,018 tickets set during 2020. The region with the highest number of Tickets was the Southern Tier, with 490.

State Senator Peter Oberacker announced that Construction Mechanic First Class Richard Scheiner or Worcester is the first veteran from his district to be inducted into the State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame. Scheiner served as a member of the Naval Seabees from 1979 to 1994, receiving numerous awards during his service time. The induction ceremony was held virtually earlier today.

Delaware County Public Health reported 2 more COVID deaths for the period of Tuesday & Wednesday, with 60 new positive cases and a positivity rate up to 8.5%. Delaware County reports 212 active cases, 11 are hospitalized and 298 are quarantined, the total number of deaths is now 67. 52.7% of County residents are fully vaccinated.

The Resilient Sidney ZOOM meeting will be held today, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. Sidney residents were recently ask to fill out a survey of for ideas for acres of land adjacent to Keith Clark Park & Behind the Sidney Veterans Park. Sidney Mayor Andy Matviak told WCDO of the expected timeline after tonight’s ZOOM meeting:

The Otsego County Department of Health is holding a COVID vaccine clinic for children age 5-11 today at the Oneonta High School Gymnasium, the clinic will run from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The Bainbridge American Legion Post 806 will host a Flag & Monument Lighting Ceremony at 5:15 PM this afternoon for Veterans Day, in the Bainbridge Village Park. The Bainbridge American Legion Post 806 donated and recently installed the new lighting in the park and will present the “First Lighting” during this Veterans Day ceremony. Post 806 is inviting everyone in our Bainbridge area to attend.

The Oneonta Community Concert Band will have a salute for Veterans today at 3:00 PM. The concert is free & open to the public at the Foothills Performing Arts Center on market Street in Oneonta, Pandemic protocols will be observed. The Sidney Town Office Building will be Closed Today & Friday for Veterans Day. The Sidney Town Office will open Monday with regular hours: Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM & Fridays 9:00 to 12:00 Noon.
