Governor Cuomo announced that temporary lane closures associated with road and bridge construction projects on State highways will not be permitted now through Monday, December 28 at 6:00 AM & again from December 31 through Monday, January 4. The lane closure restrictions have been put in place to accommodate motorists traveling for the holiday weekends. AAA predicts that the number of people traveling more than 50 miles from home this holiday season will top 100 million for the first time in history.

The State Department of Health announced the launch of its online Medical Marijuana Patient Certification and Registration System, which allows qualified patients to enroll in the Program to purchase medical marijuana when it becomes available in January. A patient must receive a DOH Medical Marijuana Program certification from a registered physician. Additional information and detailed instructions are available at health.ny.gov.

State Senator Jim Seward announced that legislation he sponsored, has been signed into law by Governor Cuomo. The bill adds pregnancy as a qualifying event for women to enroll in any health insurance plan at any time. Previously, New Yorkers could only purchase insurance coverage through the exchange outside of an open enrollment period when certain “qualifying events” such as marriage, divorce, becoming a U.S. citizen, or giving birth occur.
