State Police and the State Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit responded to a tractor trailer rollover on State Route 17 in the Town of Windsor, at about 11:00 this morning. Police said that no other vehicle was involved.  The driver was transported to a local hospital.  One lane of 17 east bound and one lane of 17 west bound was closed near exit 81; the cause of the accident is under investigation.

Governor Cuomo today announced more than $29 million in grant funding has been awarded to several counties to improve local emergency communication. This funding will support a variety of projects.  Locally, Chenango County will receive $6,000,000 to build several new communications tower sites, add new radio channels to strengthen communications between multiple jurisdictions and agencies, as well as upgrade the county’s 911 communications center with new equipment to improve monitoring of those multi-jurisdictional communications channels.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Sunday to an address in the Town of Plymouth to locate 26 year old Chelsey Hendricks on an Arrest Warrant.  Deputies located a Hendricks sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle, While Deputies were taking Hendricks into custody, Drugs and Drug Paraphernalia were located & the vehicle was seized.  The investigation revealed that Hendricks possessed Methamphetamine, she was arraigned on the Warrant and for Criminal possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminal Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and she was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail pending future court action.  The investigation is ongoing & more charges are anticipated.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested Adrianna Burlison of Norwich for Promoting Prison Contraband last Friday, following an investigation into drugs being mailed to an inmate at the Chenango County Correctional Facility.   Burlison faces action in Town of Norwich Court at a later date.

The State Health Department reported today that over 285,000 new Yorkers were tested for COVID 19 Wednesday, & the positivity rate was down to 3.5%, the lowest since November 25th.  Patients hospitalizations were down to 7,342, after hovering over 8,000 for weeks, the number of patients in an ICU bed went down to 1,402, after being at or above 1500 for many weeks and the number of patients on Ventilators was down to 941, after being over 1000 for many weeks, there were 122 deaths from COVID on Wednesday.

Chenango County Public Health reported 10 new COVID cases today, Hospitalization went down by 6 to 19, there 6 less active cases, the numbers is now 104, people in quarantine went down by 29 to 273.

State Police are reminding the public that if someone calls, texts, emails or messages you on social media and asks you to send money in the form of a gift card, it’s probably a scam.  State Police continue to receive complaints of different scams involving gift cards, some of the scammers claim to be asking to help local small business, a religious organization, or they claim to be from the IRS.  The Federal Trade Commission does collect information about scams at ftc.gov/complaint; if you have lost money, contact local law enforcement.

State Police and the State Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit responded to a report of a dump truck into a residence Wednesday morning at about 8:30 AM.  The dump truck struck a trailer on Caldwell Hill Road near State Route 79 in the town of Lisle.  The accident is still under investigation.  The driver of the dump truck reported arm and neck pain.

Delaware County Public Health reported 17 new COVID 19 cases Wednesday; they have 105 active cases with 22 hospitalized and 267 quarantined.

The State Health Department of Health has provided updated statistics on COVID-related nursing home deaths, both inside and outside of the facilities, following a Supreme Court order.  The state previously reported a death only as a ‘nursing home death’ if it occurred in the facility. If a nursing home resident died in a hospital, it was counted in the Hospital death numbers.   The full breakdown is available categorized by County & each facility at the State Health Department website.

The Sidney Central School District has been notified that one 5th grade student has tested positive for COVID-19. The student has not been on campus since Monday, February 8th. The Delaware County Health Department has conducted an investigation and the contact tracing has been completed. There will be no change to the Sidney instructional model.
