The Norwich DRI Local Planning Committee held a meeting Tuesday to announce the local projects that they are seeking funding for, from the State, to make numerous improvement to the City of Norwich. Commerce Chenango President & CEO Kerri Green told WCDO news about some of the projects:

Green said that their proposals in the Norwich Strategic Investment Plan, will be submitted to the state for final Approval, they expect to have the results in the Fall.

The Boards of Directors for the Chenango United Way and the United Way of Madison County have approved the formal affiliation of their 2 agencies, with the intent to complete an application for merger in the first quarter of 2023. The boards also voted to approve leadership by Chenango United Way’s Executive Director Elizabeth Monaco, Previously, the Chenango United Way affiliated with the United Way of Delaware & Otsego Counties, the affiliated United Ways will serve more than 224,000 people in the 4 county region, a new name for the four-county organization will be announced early next year.

The Village of Otego announced a “Boil Water Advisory Advisory” for all customers of the Otego water system starting today through Saturday. Otego Water customers should boil water before using.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced $200 million dollars in funding will be made available to revitalize downtown areas across the state. Governor Hochul announced NY Forward, which is a new program aimed at rejuvenating smaller and rural communities, and Round 6 of the state’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative.

Property tax levy growth will again be capped at 2% for 2023 for local governments that operate on a calendar-based fiscal year, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. This figure affects tax cap calculations for all counties, towns, and fire districts, as well as 44 cities and 13 villages. DiNapoli said given this year’s inflation factor calculation of 7.17%, a majority of New York’s counties, towns and calendar year cities and villages could see cost increases that exceed the amounts they are set to receive in their final round of American Rescue Plan Act funds.
