Jury selection began in Broome County Court yesterday in the trial of 44-year old Scott Mawhiney of Deposit, who has been charged with 1st degree attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a firearm and several other charges, for allegedly shooting Trooper Ryan Thorp on June 23rd. State Police and Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a home on Sunrise Terrace in Deposit when shots rang out and Trooper Thorp was wounded in the arm, Trooper Thorp is still recovering from his injuries.

Chenango County Health Department reported their 87th death related to COVID 19 today. Officials reported that they have 185 active cases, 31% are vaccinated, they are up to 469 quarantined, 6 hospitalized, they have had a total of 5143 total cases since the pandemic started.

Bassett Healthcare Network will be holding COVID-19 vaccination booster shot clinics, that will be open to the public. O’Connor Hospital in Delhi is holding a COVID-19 vaccine booster clinic on Saturday, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with the Moderna vaccine only. Appointments are required at 746-0525. Also, the FoxCare Center in Oneonta is holding a COVID-19 vaccine booster clinic on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, that clinic will provide boosters for Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a vehicle operated by 32- year-old Jesse McHargue of Middleburgh, last Thursday for inadequate tail lamps. Deputies learned that McHargue’s driver’s license was revoked due failing to answer a previous summons out of the Town of Middleburgh. McHargue was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Tail Lamps, he was released and was directed to appear at Hamden Town Court at a later date to answer the charge.

Delaware County Public Health reported another COVID death in their report covering Saturday through Monday, bringing their total to 68. They reported 79 new positive cases, a positivity rate of 10.85%, 245 active cases and 268 quarantined.

The Village of Bainbridge Board of Trustees will hold their regularly scheduled monthly meeting tonight at 6:30 PM in the Bainbridge Town Hall at 15 North Main Street; masks are required in order to attend the meeting.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the legal service providers who will be awarded portions of the $25 million in federal funding to offer free legal assistance and comprehensive housing stability services. The legal assistance is aimed at helping both tenants and landlords resolve rent-related disputes & maintaining tenants’ housing stability. Locally, the Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York, awarded $3,998,452 to serve the Southern Tier, Mohawk Valley, Central New York and parts of the North Country.
