20-year-old Michael Roque of Long island was sentenced today in Broome County Court for the murder of Joao Souza on April 15 at Windham Hall on the Binghamton University campus. Roque pleaded guilty in September to 2nd degree murder, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The first lawsuit has been filed in connection with the October 6th Limo Crash in Schoharie. Thomas and Donna Rivenburg, the parents of Amanda Rivenburg, have filed a lawsuit Prestige Limousine & Chauffer Service & others, for the use of the limousine that failed an inspection and was in violation for having 18 seats, which exceeded the limit of 10 seats for that vehicle, and that the driver did not have a proper license to operate the vehicle. The Rivenburgs are seeking monetary damages for gross negligence, pain and suffering, and wrongful death, 20 people died in the crash& the investigation is continuing.

43 year old David Woodward of Binghamton has been charged with 46 counts of unlawful surveillance, after being accused of videotaping people using his bathroom. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant & seized electronic recording devices; Woodward was arraigned and was released pending future court action.

The Oneonta Department of Public Service announced that they are repairing a water main break on Chestnut Street until about 5:00 PM today, from Morgan to West End Avenue. Some local residents will be without water for a portion of the project. Parking on the street will not be permitted, and the street will be closed to traffic for the duration of work & a detour has been set up for motorists. More information is available at 432-2100.

Governor Cuomo announced that temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on New York State highways will be suspended beginning tomorrow morning at 6:00 AM through Monday, November 26th at 6:00 AM to accommodate travelers during the busy Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend. Some work may continue behind permanent concrete barriers or for emergency repairs. New Yorkers are also reminded that state and local law enforcement will be participating in an impaired driving enforcement campaign from Wednesday through Sunday; motorists also need to remember to follow the state’s Move Over Law.

The American Red Cross is facing a severe blood shortage and urgently needs blood and platelet donors to give now to avoid delays in lifesaving medical care for patients. A blood drive will be held in Oneonta today from 1:00 to 6:00 PM at Saint James Episcopal Church, 305 Main Street.
