WCDO NEWS TUESDAY 3-24-20

New York State has 210 deaths & over 25,600 confirmed cases of the Corona Virus, & the latest projections suggest that the highest number of cases will not hit for another 2 to 3 weeks, according to Governor Cuomo this morning:

Cuomo said that the state normally has 50,000 hospital beds with about 3,000 ICU Beds with ventilators, which falls far short of the projections.  Cuomo is asking the federal Government to enact the Federal Defense Production Act to mandate manufacturers retrofit to make the needed equipment by hospitals.

The Village of Sidney offices are still open, but because of the Governor’s Executive they are not accepting foot traffic at this time due to the Coronavirus issue, Sidney Village Mayor Andy Matviak comments:

Mayor Matviak said that the Village Board meetings will continue to be closed to the public, but will be streamed live to the village’s Facebook page.

Delaware County Public Health received a laboratory confirmed positive COVID-19 report today. Delaware County Public Health is actively conducting a contact investigation.  This is the 3rd case in Delaware County so far.

AO Fox Hospital’s Tri Town Campus will be the site of another Red Cross Blood Drive on Wednesday.  The Blood Drive will be held from 1:30 to 5:30 PM, Appointments must be made at redcrossblood.org or by calling 1-800-red cross.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 1 car property damage accident on Harvard Road in the Town of Hancock, Deputies arrested 58 year-old Diane Marcellino of Florida, with driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, plus several other charges, Marcellino was issued traffic summonses and was released pending her appearance in the Town of Hancock Court on a later date.

Governor Cuomo announced that today, testing will begin with anti-Malaria Drugs for the most severe cases of the Coronavirus, to see if they can help slow down the spread of the virus across the state & national:

The state now has well over 20,000 case of the corona virus, the most by far of any state; however, the state has also performed 25% of the total testing for the virus in the entire country.

Foothills Performing Arts Center will be closed through April 1, however, they are the site for a Red Cross Blood Drive on Tuesday March 24th from 12:00 Noon to 5:00 PM.  Appointments can be made at redcrossblood.org.

State Senator Fred Akshar agrees with Governor Cuomo on his pushing to get President Trump to act on the Defense Production Act, to get manufacturers to make needed items for the health care industry in order to fight the Coronavirus Pandemic:

Akshar said that with the Act, states are bidding against each other for Masks, Scrubs & ventilators, at a ridiculously high cost to taxpayers.
