Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 39 Year Old Michael Shaheen of Chenango after he posted photos and video of himself wielding a handgun. Deputies responded Saturday to a Suspicious Incident complaint involving the photos and video sent by Shaheen, the individual receiving them requested an Extreme Risk Protection Order from the Town of Chenango Court, which was granted. Shaheen was found to be in possession of A semi-automatic handgun, ammunition, as well as Methamphetamine, Adderall, Xanax, Cocaine, MDMA, a digital scale and packing materials, at his residence. 2 children were also living at the residence. Shaheen was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, 2 Counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, 6 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & 2 counts of Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, he was arraigned and is being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility.

The State Department of Labor today released preliminary local unemployment rates for February 2024. The State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased .1% to 4.4% in February 2024, locally Chenango County had 4.5% unemployment, Delaware County had 5.2%, & Otsego County had 5.1 % in February.

The village of Sidney annual Spring Clean up will be the week of may 6th through the 10th, village crews will pick up Brush piled at the curb, as well as leaves, grass clippings, weed-stalks & hedge trimming in open containers or clear bags, all of the items must be placed by the curb by 7:00 AM Monday May 6th. The Village will provide containers at the Village Garage on Sherman Avenue on Friday or Saturday, May 10th & 11th, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, for certain electronics, Metal and non-Freon appliances, Tires without rims, Freon containing appliances with the Freon removed by a certified reclaimer.

Lull said that the deadline to apply is May 11th. Also, registration for this year’s Nate Lull Golf Tournament is available through his website, the tournament will be held in Franklin on Sunday July 7th.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24 year old Cotty Hubbard of Oneonta for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with an aggregate weight, following an investigation in to reported drug activity in the Town of Oneonta. In November of 2022, Otsego County Deputies and the State Police were dispatched to a location in the Town of Oneonta for suspicious activity, Hubbard was arrested & was released on an appearance ticket, he was accused of possessing a heroin and fentanyl mixture as well as 6 grams of cocaine, plus hypodermic needles, smoking devices and digital scales. Last August, a sealed indictment was granted by an Otsego County Grand Jury, Hubbard was located Monday and he was arraigned in Otsego County Court and released on his own recognizance.

State Police are working alongside other state agencies in preparation for a rare solar eclipse that will occur on Monday, April 8, 2024, at approximately 3 p.m. eastern time. The solar eclipse will trace a narrow path of totality across 15 U.S. states, including much of Western and Upstate New York. The State Police is working closely and coordinating with local and state partners to prepare for any potential increase in traffic and large gatherings, with enhanced patrol coverage and deploying additional Troopers,

28 year old Latasha Mott of Syracuse was arraigned on charges of manslaughter and disposal of a corpse in the death of her daughter, Nefertiti Harris. Mott is accused of fatally hitting the child with a belt multiple times on January 6, and hiding the body in a wooded area, Syracuse police were searching in fields and woods on Monday, Mott pleaded not guilty on Monday, she was being held on $500,000 cash or a $1 million bond.
