State Police are cracking down on drunk and drugged driving and other traffic infractions for the 4th of July holiday. State Troopers are conducting sobriety checkpoints and targeting reckless and aggressive driving statewide to keep New York highways safe during one of the busiest times for summertime traveling. The enforcement detail will run through Thursday, July 5th. Also, Governor Cuomo announced that lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on State highways will be suspended until Thursday, to accommodate travelers during the busy Independence Day holiday.

The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York urges New Yorkers to let professionals handle the fireworks, and not to use these dangerous & illegal devices themselves. All fireworks, including sparklers can be extremely dangerous, the tip of a sparkler burns at a temperature of nearly 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit, which can cause severe 3rd degree burns, sparklers cause roughly 25% of all fireworks-related emergency room visits, the most of any type of fireworks-like device.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies arrested 29 year old Vincent Reggero of Arkville, for False Personation, after he identified himself to Deputies during a traffic stop on State Highway 206 in the Town of Walton on June 25th using a false name and date of birth. Reggero had an active warrant for his arrest from San Antonio, Texas for Assault/Bodily Injury of a Security Officer; he was then arrested as a Fugitive from Justice and arraigned in the Village of Walton Court where he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail. Reggero will answer to charges in the Town of Walton while he awaits extradition to the State of Texas.

First Night Oneonta and Five Star Subaru present the HOMETOWN 4th of JULY in Neahwa Park tomorrow, the event is alcohol free & admission is free. Among the Scheduled events: from 9:00 AM until 12:00 Noon; The Oneonta Color Run will be held in Neahwa Park, at 12:00 Noon will be the Parade, with the Lineup at 11:00 AM at the Foothills Center for the Performing Arts on Market Street. The parade will travel down Main Street and into Neahwa Park. All entertainment, activities & vendors will be in Neahwa Park & at 6:00 PM, there will be a free Oneonta Outlaws Baseball Game at Damascke Field, the day will conclude with Fireworks at 9:30 pm.

State Police Superintendent George Beach announced the death of Trooper Nicholas Clark. Early Monday morning, Trooper Clark, the Stueben County Sheriff’s Office and the Corning Police Department responded to a call of a suicidal subject barricaded at a residence in the town of Erwin, Stueben County. During the incident response, Trooper Clark was shot and killed. 43-year old Steven Kiley was found in the residence dead of an apparent gunshot wound. Trooper Clark was 29 years old, he graduated from the 203rd session of the Basic School in 2015. The incident remains under investigation.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 40 year old Anthony Stephens of Walton, on charges of DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Uninspected Motor Vehicle, Unsafe Tire, Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent, and Moved from Lane Unsafely, following a motorcycle accident in the Town of Hamden. Stephens is scheduled to appear in the Town of Hamden Court at a later date to answer the charges.

The City of Oneonta will hold a public hearing this evening at the Oneonta Common Council Meeting at City Hall to receive public comments on the City’s community development needs, and to discuss the possible submission of 1 or more Community Development Block Grant applications for 2018. The City is currently considering a grant application for $230,000 for Nick’s Diner on Chestnut Street. The Common Council meeting is open to the public & begins at 7:00 PM in the 2nd floor Common Council Chambers.
