State Police arrested 79-year-old Freddie Maliwacki of Conklin after he was observed speeding at about 93 miles an hour on I-81 in Kirkwood. A pursuit continued on rural roads in Kirkwood and Windsor, the pursuit ended when a Broome County Sherriff’s deputy used a spike strip on State Route 79, Maliwacki drove with punctured tires into the Golden Oak Golf Course where he eventually struck an earth embankment and stopped. Maliwacki was charged with Reckless Endangerment & Criminal Mischief, he was arraigned in the town of Windsor court and was remanded to the Broome County jail with no bail set. His next court date is pending.

Governor Cuomo today announced the deployment of additional New York Air National Guard resources to assist in the Hurricane Harvey response in Texas. A search and rescue aircraft carrying 15 more Airmen from the 106th Rescue Wing is arriving at Fort Hood in Texas this afternoon, & a Regional Medical Plans Officer will depart for Texas on Thursday to assist with the evacuation and transportation of patients from area hospitals.

It was 6 years ago this week, that the region was hit by Hurricane Irene, followed by Tropical Storm Lee, and the devastation that followed. Assemblyman Pete Lopez said that 6 years later, life is still not back to normal:

Lopez said that the work is still going on around his Assembly District, with 1 eye on the sky in case another Hurricane or Tropical Storm hits the region.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 35-year-old John Whiteside Jr of Walton New York on charges of Speeding 70/55, unlicensed operator, and aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd degree following a traffic stop on State Highway 10 in the Town of Walton. Whiteside was later released on tickets returnable to Walton Town Court at a later date.

Delaware County Deputies arrested 77-year-old Albert Swan of Clifton New Jersey for 2nd degree Burglary & Criminal Trespass. Deputies responded to a trespass in progress at a residence in the Village of Stamford, Swan allegedly entered the residence through a window to remove property; he was confronted by the homeowners and would not vacate the residence until police were called. Swan was arraigned in the Town of Harpersfield Court and released on $1,000 cash bail.

The State DOT will hold a public meeting on Today to discuss plans to replace a bridge on State Route 41 over Long Pond Brook in the town of Smithville. The open house meeting will be held at the Smithville Community Center, on State Route 41 in the town Smithville Flats beginning at 6:30 pm. A formal presentation will begin at 7 p.m. The bridge was built in 1936 & is safe for continued travel and is regularly inspected. The project proposes to replace the bridge on its existing alignment. Construction is currently scheduled to begin in the spring of 2019 and be completed in two construction seasons.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 31 year old Latorrie Boykin of Bronx New York, on charges of failure to keep right, moving from lane unsafely, and driving while ability impaired by alcohol following a traffic stop on County Highway 26 in the Town of Colchester. Deputies allege the defendant was driving a motor vehicle to Bronx New York from the Village of Delhi while in an impaired condition. Boykin was later released on tickets returnable to Colchester Town Court at a later date.
