The National Transportation Safety Board has issued its preliminary report regarding the Schoharie limousine crash on October 6th 2018 that killed 20 people.   The report recommends more thorough inspections, a requirement that all limo passengers wear a safety belt.   Limousine owner Nauman Hussain was charged with 20 counts each of 2nd degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide.

The New York State of Health announced that in more than 1/2 of New York’s counties, the rate of uninsured New Yorkers declined according to statistics released by the U.S. Census Bureau.   New York was 1 of only 3 states nationwide to see a decrease in its uninsured population in 2018.  More information is available at nystateofhealth.ny.gov.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Department responded Sunday to a Disturbance on Hancock Road in the Town of Colesville. Responding deputies identified 35 year old Clifford Whitman Jr., as being involved in the dispute, he had an active Felony Warrant out of Susquehanna County Pennsylvania for his arrest.  Whitman fled through the woods; he was taken into custody after a quarter mile foot chase & was turned over to Correctional Staff for arraignment. One Deputy sustained minor injuries during the struggle, which did not require medical care.  Whitman was charged as a Fugitive from Justice, plus 2nd degree Assault, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Resisting Arrest & Obstructing Governmental Administration.

Otsego County Sherriff’s Deputies responded Monday to a 3 vehicle accident in Milford.  45 year old Timothy Mower of Ilion allegedly fell asleep at the wheel of his truck, & hit 2 parked cars on Main Street in Milford.  Mower was ticketed for Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, failing to keep right and operating a motor vehicle without an interlock device, due to a previous DWI conviction.

State Senator Fred Akshar will hold a Veterans Town Hall on the 18th Floor of the Binghamton State Office Building at 5:30 this afternoon.  Senator Akshar will be joined by Director of the Division of Veterans’ Services Retired Army Colonel James McDonough Jr.   The State Office Building is located at 44 Hawley Street in Binghamton, veterans are urged to attend.

Governor Cuomo today announced that the utilization rate for Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises on state contracts increased to 29% during the 2018-2019 Fiscal Year, the highest rate in the nation, which translates to more than $2.93 billion in state contracts awarded to Minority & Women-Owned Business.  

Another Blood Drive is being held in Sidney today, at the A.O. Fox Hospital tri-Town Campus on Pearl Street.  The Blood Drive will be held in Conference room N-112 from 1:30 to 6:30 PM, appointments are requested at 1-800 Red Cross or REDCROSSBLOOD.org.

Another Chenango County Free rabies Clinic will be held today at the South new Berlin Fire Station.  The clinic will run from 5:30 to 6:30 PM.

The Village of Bainbridge Zoning Board of Appeals will hold a special meeting this evening at 6:30 PM at the Village clerk’s Office at 33 West Main Street.  The purpose of the meeting is to discuss a variance & Special Permit for 5 Prospect Street and a Special Permit for 62 West Main Street.  The meeting is open to the public.
