State Police and local law enforcement agencies will be stepping up patrols starting today; to crack down on impaired driving during the busy holiday travel season. The enforcement campaign will run through Wednesday, January 1 & it is part of the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiative.    During the 2018 enforcement campaign, law enforcement throughout the state arrested 4,142 people for impaired driving and issued 144,197 tickets for other vehicle and traffic law violations.

Governor Cuomo signed legislation to ensure absentee ballots match ballots used to vote on Election Day, and that the new simplified absentee ballot applications created in 2010 are used in school district elections.   The New Bill follows earlier legislation expediting party enrollment changes to make it easier for voters to participate in primary elections; it removed the October 11th deadline and gives voters until February 14th to make changes to party enrollment and still vote in the April presidential and June congressional and state primaries.

Oneonta Police & Firefighters rescued an unidentified woman from the spillway near Oneonta Creek Tuesday afternoon, in an apparent suicide attempt.  The 34 year old woman was pulled from the water and taken to AO Fox Hospital for treatment.

State Senator Fred Akshar & Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo are sponsoring the Demos Ford Act, named after a Binghamton Boy suffering from Lyme disease.  The Act would establish specific guidelines and protocols for healthcare providers in the proper diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease & other tick borne illnesses.

Residents in the towns of Sanford & Windsor are banding together to try to stop Calpine from placing 25 wind turbines in their towns.  The town of Sanford board has passed new restrictions to limit the distance turbines can be placed from personal property, and for the noise frequencies that they may produce.  Calpine is the same company that is also trying to build a similar amount of wind turbines in the town of Guilford.

The Otsego County Fair is hosting their 1st Annual Holiday of Lights at the Fairgrounds in Morris this Thursday, Friday & Saturday Nights.  Fair President Joe Kolka explains

Governor Cuomo signed legislation establishing a regulatory framework for the production and sale of hemp and hemp extract. The measure also requires the hemp industry to test and label their products, it creates a registration requirement for sellers of hemp extract products; makes regulatory changes to the 2018 Farm Bill; and defers decision making on hemp extracts, including CBD, as additives for food and beverages.
