State Police have charged 31-year-old Serina Madden of Colesville with 2 counts of endangering the Welfare of a child. Madden is accused of allowing 2 of her children to play & sleep in the same room where her 10 year old daughter Belladonna Loke had died. Madden was held in the Broome County Jail on the 2 charges, the investigation into the death of the girl is continuing, the results of an autopsy performed earlier this month has not been released. Police said that Loke suffered from a serious medical condition at the time of her death.

The amount & type of precipitation for Thursday night & Friday’s Winter Storm is in question still, based on the early computer models. Sidney High School Science Teacher & Meteorologist Rich Townsend comments:

Townsend said that forecasts could be drastically different for this storm over the next 24 hours. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Watch for Thursday night through Friday Night.

The Otsego County Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations currently through March 16th, for the Distinguished Business Award, for companies with 50 or more employees. The Late Eugene Bettiol, who passed away late last year, will be honored by the Chamber as the recipient this year’s Distinguished Citizen Award, which was named after him in recent years. The celebration will be held on Thursday, May 3rd, at 5:45 PM at The Foothills Performing Arts and Civic Center.

Tonight is the next Tri Town Coalition on Substance Abuse Prevention meeting at 6:00PM at the Sidney High School Cafeteria. The purpose of tonight’s meeting will be to discuss the goals of the coalition for 2018 and planning for upcoming events.

The United Way of Delaware & Otsego Counties announced that Kimberly Lorraine has been selected as the new Executive Director. Lorraine joined the untied way in December & has over 25 years experience in Non-Profit Management.

State Police arrested 20 year old Syrano Edwards of Hilton, for DWI with a B.A.C. result of .15% and other traffic violations. The arrest occurred after a traffic stop when troopers observed the vehicle with no passenger side brake light on State Route 23, in the town of Oneonta, troopers accuse Edwards of driving while intoxicated, he was issued tickets returnable to the town of Oneonta Court on March 6th.

The Village of Sidney hosted an informal meeting with architects responsible for the design of the “Green Plain” project, at the Community Field behind the Sidney Memorial Park. Place Alliance Landscape Architect Andrew Bohne told WDCO news where they are at & what the timeline is;

Bohne said that the money was only recently made available for this part of the Sidney flood mitigation program, & phase one is underway.

Governor Cuomo today announced animal shelters and humane societies across the state have been awarded funding through the New York State Companion Animal Capital Fund. Locally, the Susquehanna SPCA in Cooperstown will recieve $500,000 for the construction of a new animal shelter to replace the current structure, to decrease the flooding risk and to allow for the addition of an adoption counseling area.
