State Police arrested 35 year old Randy Deese of Unadilla following verbal argument that turned physical & resulted in injures to the victim, in Unadilla Tuesday morning.  State police received a 911 hang up call; the victim then came to Troop C to report the incident & was taken to AO Fox Hospital’s Tri-Town Campus in Sidney for treatment.   Deese is accused of choking the victim, causing the victim to lose consciousness and forcing the victim to sexual contact.  Deese was taken into custody in Liberty & was brought back to Troop C, and was charged with 1st degree rape, strangulation, coercion, stalking criminal possession of a weapon, forcible touching & assault among other charges, he was arraigned and remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $50,000 cash bail.  His next court appearance is scheduled in May.

Governor Cuomo today announced that the 12:00 AM food and beverage service curfew will be lifted for outdoor dining areas on May 17 and for indoor dining areas on May 31.  The 1:00 AM curfew for catered events where attendees have provided proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID-19 test will be lifted on May 17, with the curfew for all catered events set to be lifted May 31.   Catered events can resume at residences beginning May 3 above the State’s residential gathering limit of 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors, as long as the events are staffed by a licensed caterer, are permitted by the municipality, and adhere to guidance regarding masks, and social distancing. Also on May 3, the guidance for dancing among attendees at catered events will be aligned with neighboring states.

Binghamton Fire Fighters responded to a blaze at 74 Front Street yesterday, that destroyed housing used by SUNY Binghamton Men’s Lacrosse team.  The structure was a total loss & had to be demolished late yesterday.  All occupants escaped, no injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Chenango County Public Health reported 10 new COVID cases today, with 113 active cases, 6 hospitalized & 483 Active Quarantines.  They have had 3229 Total Confirmed Cases with just under 3000 Total Recoveries.  This week, Public Health has 100 first COVID Vaccine doses for this week and 200 second doses.  The website has been updated and a link to register for appointments each week will be provided at co.chenango.ny.us/public-health

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection announced that due to delays in equipment delivery, they have postponed the planned work at the Cannonsville Dam to repair the valve in the release chamber. The announcement avoids the need to shut off the release for the 3-day period; it will be rescheduled at a later date.

State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative in Delaware County. State Police said that a clerk at the Mirabito Quickway on Delaware Avenue in Sidney sold alcohol to a minor & was issued an appearance ticket.  Mirabito Quickway store in Sidney, Delhi & Franklin were in compliance.  During Underage Drinking Initiative, retail establishments are checked utilizing a trooper in plain clothes and 1 or several underaged operatives who cannot lie about their age, when asked for ID, they must show their real ID.

The State Senate passed bills to protect clean water, & calls for testing for emerging contaminants in drinking water across the state.  The Senate’s action comes as Siena College publishes a new poll revealing that 64% of New Yorkers are “very concerned” about water pollution in New York.  Approximately 2,000 small water utilities in New York have not tested for potentially harmful chemicals like strontium, chromium-6, and many other toxic chemicals.

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce has partnered with United State Small Business Association representatives to present a Free 1-hour webinar on May 13th at 10:00 AM, to provide an overview and details about the Restaurant Revitalization Fund, for eligible restaurants & bars impacted by COVID-19.  The SBA will open applications on Monday, May 3rd, for the $28.6 billion Fund, to register for the webinar, go to delawarecounty.org.

Delaware County Public Health reported 7 positive COVID tests Tuesday out of 218 tested, they have 93 active cases, 19 hospitalized & they are down to 162 quarantined.
