State Police were dispatched to 741 Hawleyton Road in the town of Binghamton for a report of a fatal accident involving construction equipment operated on private property. The deceased was identified as 56 year-old Anthony Gawlinski, he was removed to Wilson Hospital for an autopsy, The Investigation is continuing

State DOT announced the start of work on the $1.9 million replacement of the State Route 7 Bridge over Kelsey Brook in the Village of Afton. The bridge will be strengthened and elevated two feet to better protect it against flooding. The new bridge will have a larger opening for the waterway below, making it less susceptible to flooding. Construction will be completed in two stages; the first stage calls for traffic to be controlled by temporary signals when a lane of the roadway is closed. The winter traffic pattern is scheduled for November 1, 2018, to April 15, 2019. The second stage of construction calls for temporary traffic signals when the roadway is reduced to a single travel lane through October 31, 2019.

State Senator Jim Seward announced senate passage of legislation to preserve voter choice in Otsego County. Seward’s bill was developed following a minor administrative oversight where Otsego County Board District 10 Representative Dan Wilber inadvertently overlooked the requirement to sign his oath of office within 30 days of his swearing-in triggering an automatic vacancy. While he has been legally reappointed to the position by the county board, his office will be open for election again this November to fill the final year of the term. The new bill, if signed in to law, would allow Wilber to complete the two-year term he was elected to serve. The bill has been forwarded to the state assembly.

36-year-old Mike Rivera, Jr. of Binghamton pleaded guilty in Broome County Court for the December attack of a woman in Binghamton. Rivera pleaded guilty to 2nd degree Attempted murder, Attempted assault, 2nd degree Assault, Strangulation, Sexual abuse, & Unlawful imprisonment, first degree, for stabbing the woman with a knife, strangling her, and subjecting her to unwanted sexual contact. Sentencing is scheduled for August 31st.

47 year old Timothy Lee of Vestal has been arrested by the Binghamton Police Department for 2 counts each of criminal sex act and endangering the welfare of a child. Lee is accused of performing sexual acts with a 15 year student, while serving as a teacher in the Binghamton City School District; he was released in his own recognizance pending additional court action.

Governor Cuomo proposed an additional $125 billion investment in infrastructure over the next 5 years, for the next phase of an infrastructure program to build a new New York and create middle class jobs. 2 Otsego County Jail inmates were arrested by the Otsego County Sheriff’s Department. 39 year old Nancy Callahan of Richfield Springs was arrested after an investigation allegedly found her to be in possession of crack cocaine while incarcerated at the jail. She was charged with promoting prison contraband, & criminal possession of controlled substance, she remains incarcerated on a $10,000 cash bail. 32 year old Mark Russitano of Utica was arrested Monday, May 7 following an investigation into an alleged physical altercation against another inmate at the Correctional Facility. He was charged with attempted assault and remains incarcerated without bail.
