Governor Hochul & Legislative Leaders announced that 10 bills have been introduced to tighten New York’s gun laws, close loopholes and directly address the gaps in our laws exposed by the shootings in Buffalo, Texas, and around the country. The bills would require information sharing between state, local and federal agencies when guns are used in crimes; make threatening mass harm a crime; require micro-stamping for new guns; prohibit the purchase of body armor for anyone not in an eligible profession & strengthen the Red Flag law by expanding the list of people who can file for Extreme Risk Protection Orders.

SUNY Oneonta students donated a record amount of food to The Lord’s Table on Elm Street in Oneonta. With the donations, The Lord’s Table and food pantry is well stocked to serve meals throughout the summer months & beyond, the amount donated was approximately $6,700 worth of nonperishable food items.

The State Health Department reported that the Statewide 7-Day Average Case Rate for COVID 19 has Dropped every day for the last 2 weeks, back to the lowest levels since April 28th, across all regions of the state. More Than 80 Million Over-The-Counter COVID-19 Tests have been distributed To New Yorkers & there were 26 Statewide Deaths Reported Yesterday

Taxes on motor fuel and highway diesel motor fuel are suspended today through December 31st. The State Department of Taxation & Finance announced that excise tax, prepaid sales tax, and state sales and use taxes are suspended, Local sales and use taxes are not suspended except where local legislative bodies voted to suspend their tax also. Several jurisdictions have elected to change their sales tax rate effective, today, the list of counties & municipalities that have dropped their portion of the gas tax can be found at tax.ny.gov.
