Catholic Charities will hold their 5th mass food distribution at the River Street Fire Station in Sidney Later this month, Spokesperson Penny McKnight explains:

McKnight said that in the previous 4 mass food distribution, they gave away between 9 & 12 tons of food each time.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 23 year old Korey Crandall of Sherburne on a Bench Warrant issued out of the City of Norwich Court. Deputies located Crandall in the Town of Sherburne and was in possession of methamphetamines. Crandall was issued an appearance ticket for Possession of a Controlled Substance and was later turned over to the Norwich City Police Department.

Delaware Valley Humane Society will hold its 2nd annual “Heavy Metal Haul-out” fundraiser through the month of September, Shelter Director Erin Insinga explains:

Items like washer, dryers & other metal items can be dropped off at any time at the Delaware Valley Humane Society on the Back River Road in Sidney, Waste recovery Enterprise will bring the metals to Binghaton for disposal & money raised goes for operating expenses at the Shelter.

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies announced that today’s game against Richmond at Mirabito Stadium has been postponed in conjunction with Minor League Baseball due to Covid-19 health and safety protocols as well as inclement weather in the forecast. The Rumble Ponies will continue to practice caution and follow the guidance of medical experts. Fans with tickets to today’s game can exchange their tickets for a future Rumble Ponies home game this season.

The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that State Route 28 will be closed from Frank Slawson Road to Coe Hill Road in the Town of Meredith, tomorrow through Wednesday, September 22nd, for a culvert replacement. All work is weather dependent. Northbound through traffic will be diverted onto County Route 10 in Meridale and southbound through traffic will be directed onto State Route 23 in Oneonta. Governor Kathy Hochul announced a Special Session of the State Legislature today to address New York’s rent and eviction crisis, the Open Meetings Law, and the state’s cannabis program. Governor Hochul also announced she is extending New York State’s eviction moratorium to January 15, 2022.

Chenango County Public Health announced that a Moderna COVID 19 Vaccine clinic will be held today at the old Label Shopper location for 3rd doses, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon for those that are eligible. Other clinics will be held at the same location in the South Plaza in Norwich on September 7th, 14th & 21st, more information is available at 337-1660.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that $89 million in child care provider stabilization grant funds have been disbursed. More than 10,600 of New York State’s 18,000 eligible child care providers have applied for Child Care Stabilization Grant funding. To date, child care providers have requested $585 million of the available $1.1 billion in federal funding. The New York State Office of Children and Family Services is administering the funds.
