Governor Cuomo announced that the New York Senate confirmed Jenny Rivera to serve on the New York State Court of Appeals. Professor Rivera has taught at the City University of New York School of Law, served as a staff attorney at Legal Aid Society of New York City, as an Associate Counsel for the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund and served as a law clerk to Sonia Sotomayor at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Rivera also served in the office of State Attorney General when Cuomo headed up that office.

The Harpursville central school district will be closed today.  Officials told WCDO News that a water pump issue is to blame, and officials hope to get the problem solved today, and have students return to class tomorrow.

11 community organizations are sponsoring an informational forum, “Leveling the Playing Field – Open Meetings and Freedom of Information for Concerned Citizens”. The forum will be held on Wednesday, February 20th at 7:00 PM at the East Meredith Fire Hall on County Highway 10 in East Meredith.  This meeting is open to the public and admission is free.

State Senator Jim Seward announced that NYSEG is scheduled to take several steps to improve electrical service in the Town and Village of Laurens.  Seward met with local officials and NYSEG representatives to discuss the high number of outages within the Laurens area and call for service upgrades to improve reliability.  NYSEG is considering additional upgrades and will be studying the possibility of adding a new feed along County Route 11 from West Oneonta.
