Governor Cuomo will be in Broome County this morning, at 10:45 he will make an announcement at the Kirkwood Industrial Park West.

The Republican committees in the 52 State Senate District have announced that Broome County Under sheriff Fred Akshar will be their candidate for the special election to fill that seat. A special election was necessary following the conviction on federal charges & subsequent expulsion of long time Republican Senator Tom Libous of Binghamton, Democrats have already announced that former Broome County Executive & Former State DMV Commissioner Barbara Fiala will be their candidate.

Afton Fire responded Monday night to Wagner Lumber at 224 County Road 26 for a reported Electrical Fire. Fire fighters were called in from Coventry, Bainbridge, Greene, & Harpursville.

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said Monday that the retailers including Wal-Mart, Sears and Amazon have agreed to halt the sales of life-like toy guns in New York. The retailers have also agreed to pay over $300,000 in penalties. Schneiderman’s office found that over 6,400 toy guns sold from 2012 to 2014 violated New York laws; most of those were sold online. Schneiderman said there have been 63 shootings in New York since 1994 as a result of someone holding a toy weapon.
