State police will continue to be out in full force for the July 4th holiday weekend.  Patrols will be looking for speeders, drunk, drugged or aggressive drivers, those using cell phones for calling or texting while driving, they are also looking for all motorists & passengers to use their seat belts.

Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 22-year-old Joshua Crandall of Binghamton and a 15-year-old Sidney resident for endangering the Welfare of a child and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. Deputies responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Guilford, where a vehicle went over an embankment, with both occupants fleeing the scene.  Investigators accuse the 15 year old of taking the vehicle in Oxford, he lost control of the vehicle due to unsafe speed, and he was found to be in possession of marihuana and was released to the custody of his parents.  Crandall was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and arraigned in the Town of Guilford court; he was remanded to the correctional facility on $1,000 cash bail.

State Troopers arrested 25-year-old Alexander Griffin of Bainbridge for Criminal Possession of a Weapon With Intent to Use and 2nd degree Menacing. The arrest resulted from the report of a road rage incident on Interstate 88 in the town of Colesville; Griffin was arraigned at the Town of Colesville Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.

The Otsego County Sheriffs office is searching for 80 year old Robert Merkel, who was traveling from Virginia to the West end of Oneonta on July 2nd, he has not been heard from leaving Chesapeake Virginia Tuesday.  Merkel is a white male, 5’10 inches tall, approximately 200 lbs, blue eyes, bald and wears wire-rimmed glasses, anyone with information is asked to contact the Otsego County sheriff’s office at 547-1692.

The New Berlin Main Street Grant Selection Committee would like eligible New Berlin property owners to register by August 1st for applications for the Development Chenango Corporation grant.   Rough project cost estimates, demonstration of funding match availability, and a basic project proposal are required for the initial application.  More information about the downtown New Berlin Main Street Program is available at 334-5532; technical assistance is available at 334-1401.

State Troopers arrested 50-year-old Todd Dickson of Chenango Forks, for Felony Driving While Intoxicated. The arrest resulted from a 911 call of a complaint originating at the Red Apple gas station in Port Crane; Dickson was arraigned in the Town of Fenton Court and is scheduled to reappear at a later date.

The Chenango sheriffs department arrested 27-year-old Dianna Essig of Afton on an active Bench Warrant for Petit Larceny.  Deputies & state police arrested Essig; she was arraigned in the Town of Bainbridge Court and is being held on $2000 cash bail at the Chenango County Jail pending court action.
