Delaware County Deputies investigated a 2-car accident in the Town of Walton on Lower Third Brook Road Wednesday. 67-year-old Marilyn Condon of Bainbridge went into the opposite lane around a parked vehicle and struck a vehicle driven by 44 year old Kimberly Finch of Walton.  Both drivers to be taken to Delaware Valley Hospital by Walton, Condon was issued a summons for failure to keep right for Town of Walton court on September 25th.

Delaware county sheriff Tom Mills announced that the newly formed K-9 Unit participated in its first arrest 1 day after graduating from the Academy.  K9 “Ozzie” and Deputy John Demeo, assisted Walton Police with a traffic stop Wednesday. Officers initially discovered marijuana in plain sight in the stopped vehicle; the K9 unit was brought in, which led to the discovery of heroin hidden in the vehicle.  Charged were 24-year-old Anthony Palladino of Walton, 22-year-old Troy Terney of Walton and 21-year-old Melissa Dacey of Delhi for unlawful possession of marihuana, criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminally using drug paraphernalia.   All subjects were issued appearance tickets returnable to the Village of Walton Court at a later date.

Chenango county sheriff’s deputies arrested 73-year-old Henry Hemsley of North Norwich on an active Bench Warrant and Resisting Arrest.   Hemsley is accused of failing to appear in court for the charge of Unlawful Growing of Cannabis.   Hemsley resisted arrest by attempting to run into his residence and by fighting with the Deputy.  Hemsley was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 cash bail to reappear in the Town of North Norwich Court at a later date.

Downtown Oneonta will be busy Saturday with the usual Farmers’ Market to be part of the Grand & Glorious Garage sale on Main Street.  Also the 11th Annual City of the Hills Art and Music Festival, hosted by the Community Arts Network of Oneonta, will be held Saturday from 9 to 5 in the Dietz Street parking lot near Main Street with over 140 vendors on hand.

Governor Cuomo announced that the  State’s Medicaid Redesign Team Supportive Housing initiative would undertake investments to create new affordable housing units.  The buildings will be located throughout the state, including Broome County. The team has also worked to reform the state’s health care system by reducing costs by $4.6 billion, while adding 154,000 people to the Medicaid rolls.  more information is available at health.ny.gov

On Saturday The Afton VFW will hold its “All you can Eat” pancake breakfast from 7:00 to 11:00 AM. This event is held every 3rd Saturday of the month at the VFW hall on Main Street in Afton.
