State Senator Jim Seward will begin his 14th term in the state senate this year.  Seward was optimistic that the bipartisan cooperation would continue in Albany, and more would be accomplished:

Seward took the oath of office Tuesday at the Foothills Performing Arts Center in Oneonta; he was first elected to the state senate in 1986.

Broome County Sheriff’s deputies charged 22 year old Tyler Maddox of Port Dickinson with second-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree attempted assault and second-degree menacing Tuesday> Maddox is accused of attacking an individual in the head with a wooden 2-by-4.  Maddox is scheduled to answer the charges in the Town of Fenton Court at a later date.

The Delaware County Sheriffs Office arrested Todd Keck of Andes Monday on 1 count of 3rd degree Menacing, and 1 count of 2nd degree Aggravated Harassment.   Keck was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court and was released on his own recognized to appear in the Town of Andes Court at a later date.

State Police at Oneonta arrested 40-year-old Matthew VanBuren of Fairfield Connecticut for Driving While Intoxicated and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.  The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on State Route 23 in Oneonta; VanBuren was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Oneonta Court on January 22nd.

State Police at Binghamton arrested 29-year-old Michael Canfield of Windsor for Driving While Intoxicated, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Petit Larceny.  The arrest resulted from a dispute on State Route 11 in Kirkwood; Canfield was issued tickets returnable in the Town of Kirkwood Court at a later date.

New Chenango county judge Frank Revoir was sworn into office Tuesday at the Chenango County Courthouse.  Revoir was sworn in as Chenango County, Family and Surrogate Court Judge, for a 10-year term.  Revoir replaces outgoing Chenango County Court Judge Howard Sullivan, who retired at the end of the year.

New York governor Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie released a joint statement, regarding the US House of representatives failing to go along with a senate proposal to send hurricane sandy aid to both states.  The governors said that the continued inaction and indifference by the House was inexcusable & unprecedented. Hurricane sandy pounded the jersey shore and New York City and its suburbs in late October, causing an estimated 1 billion dollars in damage.

Vestal police are investigating the circumstances around the death of 54-year-old Christine Mapes of Vestal.  Mapes was pronounced dead after her body was found in the Susquehanna River, police had responded to a missing person complaint, they followed a small trail behind the residence, & found a body under the ice of the river.  The investigation is continuing.

UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich is the first in the region to acquire a new system, which makes procedures easier for both patients and physicians to assist in early detection of diseases.   The system uses state-of-the-art electronics including a video processor, light source, endoscope and monitor to enable physicians to peer inside the human body to diagnose, detect and treat gastrointestinal diseases and other conditions, and at earlier stages than before.  Those seeking more information about screenings with the new technology should consult their primary care providers.
