Governor Cuomo announced that there would be $1.2 billion in savings to employers due to reforms to the state’s Workers’ Compensation and Unemployment Insurance systems.   Cuomo stated that workers’ COMPENSATION REFORM amounts to $800 MILLION IN SAVINGS TO BUSINESSES WHILE INCREASING BENEFITS FOR WORKERS, While the UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE REFORM amounts to $400 MILLION IN SAVINGS TO EMPLOYERS WHILE INCREASING BENEFIT RATES FOR those who need to make claims.

“Rock in the Park 2013” will be the 2nd Benefit concert for Chenango County Toys for Tots”, on August 10th, at General Clinton Park in Bainbridge.  Concert organizer Jason hall said that the need for toys for tots extends beyond the Chenango county borders:

The state police and the Otsego county sheriff’s department announced that their joint investigation has led to the arrest of 27 year old Corey Hunt for 2 counts of 2nd degree burglary as well as 3rd & 4th degree Grand Larceny.  Hunt is accused of burglarizing 2 homes in Decatur and Middlefield, DNA evidence left on a cigarette at the scene led police to Hunt, a search of Hunt’s residence led to the recovery of stolen items from those homes.  Hunt is currently serving 3 to 9 years in state prison; the new charges could lead to another 30 years in prison, if convicted.

The Boys & Girls Club of Sidney will host the 18th Annual Tim Morley Memorial Golf Tournament on June 6th, at the Sidney Golf & Country Club. The tournament has become the Club’s largest yearly fundraiser, it is named after Tim Morley, who helped get the club started over 20 years ago, and who died in an accident in 1994.  More information is available at 561-2311 or online at www.bgcsidney.com.

Governor Cuomo announced that 4 job fairs will take place on tomorrow, to connect job seekers with 250 businesses offering 5,000 jobs.  One of the 4 job fairs will be held in Binghamton at Broome Community College Ice Rink from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  More information is available through the state Labor Department at 1-888-4-NYSDOL or labor.ny.gov.

Country music fans will be treated to concerts by 2 big stars in Broome County this summer.  Organizers at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open will have a concert with Country star Tim McGraw on August 16th.  Organizers with the annual Spiedie Fest announced that LeAnn Rimes will headline a concert at Otsiningo Park on August 3rd.
