Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 26 year old Tyler Rose of Exeter for 1st, 2nd & 3rd degree Assault, Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Aggravated Harassment among other charges, Deputies were dispatched to the West Exeter Fire Department after fire personnel located an adult victim with serious physical injuries, who was transported to Bassett Hospital with multiple fractures, lacerations and contusions. The investigation revealed that the victim was imprisoned at Rose’s residence for days while subjected to continued assaults with a variety of tools and implements.

Binghamton emergency crews responded Friday to 139 Washington Street for a report of a fire in an apartment in that building. Emergency crews discovered a drug lab in a different apartment in the building during their routine firefighting operations. Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team responded, nearby evacuated buildings and area businesses were allowed to reopen later Friday evening, the investigation into the illegal drug lab is continuing.

The U.S. Department of Labor has ordered Valley Veterinary Associates on State Route 7 in Unadilla to pay over $90,000, in back wages, following an investigation into accusations that the company paid the regular hourly wage to employees for their overtime hours. The investigation also revealed that employee records that were inaccurate. 39 employees were ordered to be paid their proper back-wages.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested Michael Morton of Exeter on June 26th on multiple drug charges, after deputies responded to a complaint of a suspicious person in the Town of Plainfield. The legislation expands eligibility requirements in the concealed carry permitting process, Allows the state to regulate and standardize training for license applicants, restricts the carrying of concealed weapons in sensitive locations and Establishes state oversight over background checks for firearms and regular checks on license holders for criminal convictions. The law will take effect on September 1st, an appeals board will be created for those applicants whose license or renewal is denied or revoked, which will take effect on April 1st 2023.

State Police arrested 32 year old Aaron Collins of Barton as a fugitive from justice from Pennsylvania where he was wanted on attempted criminal homicide charges. City of Oneonta officials said Tuesday the top level of the city parking garage will be closed for cleaning and maintenance from 6:00 AM tomorrow until 6:00 AM Thursday, the stairwells and pedestrian bridge to Main Street will remain open. Otsego County Department of Health reported that they have had 30 confirmed cases of COVID 19 in June & July, with 9 cases in June and 21 in July. Of those 30 cases, 18 were female and 12 male, 4 individuals were hospitalized, all were 60 years or older. There are currently 10 active cases in 7 different households; no link between households has been identified. 3 new cases were reported Tuesday, giving the County 99 total confirmed cases, 3 people are hospitalized, 5 have died, 84 have recovered and 219 people on quarantined.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies and Delhi Fire Department and Emergency Squad responded Monday Evening to a reported tractor-trailer accident at the intersection of County Highway 2 and East Terry Clove Road in the Town of Delhi. 35 year-old David Stanton of Oneonta was the operator of the tractor trailer loaded with logs; it jack-knifed on the slush covered roadway and partially rolled onto its side as Stanton attempted a left turn. Stanton was not injured in the accident, but the highway remained closed for several hours for the cleanup.

State Police and the Otsego County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to a report of a pedestrian struck by a tractor trailer with a dump trailer Wednesday at approximately 1:44 p.m., on County Road 22 in Schuyler Lake. Police seized 1.5 pounds of Crystal Meth, pure Fentanyl, 20 pounds of marihuana, 4 handguns, 16 illegally possessed long guns Scales, Packaging materials & $3,350.00 in cash. Melendez & Rivas were charged with Criminal possession of a controlled substance & were arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and remanded to Chenango County Jail with no bail. Sunday night, the Deposit Fire Department and Eastern Broome Emergency Services were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident where the vehicle involved had gone into a creek in the Town of Sanford. ]]>State Police and the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Department responded to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of State Route 30 and S30A in the town of Schoharie. A Ford Excursion limousine was traveling in a southwestern direction on State Route 30 and failed to stop at the intersection with State Route 30A. The limousine traveled across the intersection into a parking lot and struck a 2015 Toyota Highlander which was unoccupied and parked; the Highlander then struck and killed 2 pedestrians. 20 victims were killed, all 18 in the limousine, including the driver, and the two pedestrians. The investigation is ongoing.

Otsego County Sheriff Department arrested 31 year old Joel Young of Exeter, after he pointed a shotgun at a Sheriff’s Deputy during a domestic dispute call. The deputy entered the residence and attempted to arrest the defendant, who fled from into his bedroom & retrieved a shotgun and pointed it at the Deputy. State DOT announced the completion of a $2.7 million pavement resurfacing project on Interstate 88 in the town and city of Oneonta. The 3.9-mile improvement project between Exit 13 and 16 included the milling & repaving, the shoulders were also given a surface treatment and all pavement markings were replaced. Curb ramps at the ends of the Exit 14 and Exit 15 off ramps were improved to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

State Police arrested 46-year-old Greg Dyn of Richfield Springs for 5th degree Arson, after the troopers investigation determined that on January 21st, during an argument with his ex-girlfriend, Dyn had sent her pictures of some of her clothing and personal items that he had set on fire. Last November, Troopers responded to a report of a burglary in the town of Union, when VanDyke reported that her TV, video game console, and computer tablet had been stolen, troopers believe that VanDyke had falsely reported the thefts. Troopers attempted to locate VanDyke, she was observed driving with a suspended license, with a vehicle that did not have a court ordered ignition interlock device as required by a prior DWI conviction. VanDyke was issued tickets returnable to the town of Union Court on February 6th.

On January 4, 51 year old Donald Savastano of Sidney claimed a New York State Lottery check for $1 million which he won playing the Merry Millionaire scratch off ticket. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Department has charged 7 teenagers in connection with the fire that destroyed a railcar on the Leatherstocking Railroad Historical Association siding in Milford last October 3rd. Deputies stated that the teens had entered the railcar over a 2 day period, removed items from the railcar, set off the flair that caused the fire.

An Otsego County grand jury handed down an indictment against 23 year old Kevin Perry of Laurens, on a variety of counts for 1st-degree murder and 2nd-degree murder in connection with the shooting deaths of his parents in two town of Laurens home in December. Perry was remanded to the Otsego County jail without bail until his arraignment on the Grand Jury charges.

20 year old Julian VanCourt-Wels was indicted by an Otsego County Grand Jury on the charge of 2nd degree attempted murder. For allegedly stabbing his girlfriend on December 8th. VanCourt-Weis is accused of using a kitchen knife to stab his girlfriend in their apartment at 30 Maple Street in Oneonta. VanCourt-Wels is being held on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond pending future court action.

The Sidney Central School District and the Sidney SADD chapter are organizing a 5k walk or run on Sunday October 22nd, to help support children with cancer. 100% of proceeds will be given to “Hope and Heroes”. Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 29 year old Coy Biviano for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, while he was incarcerated at the Chenango County Correctional Facility following an investigation in to stolen property. It is alleged that Biviano was in a residence in North Norwich where he unlawfully took property not belonging to him. The property was later located in the residence were Biviano was staying. Biviano is to appear in the Town of North Norwich Court at a later date.

State Senator Jim Seward joined officials from the Greater Oneonta Historical Society to announce a $250,000 state grant to fund renovation and restoration work at the Oneonta History Center on Main Street. The $250,000 grant is under the state’s 2002 Strategic Investment Program and is administered by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York.

The Delaware County Tourism Advisory Board is now accepting applications for funding under the newly created Tourism Promotion & Development Grant program. 4 Chenango County Farms will benefit following an announcement by Governor Cuomo, to address the impact of climate change on agriculture. The Chenango County Soil and Water Conservation District was awarded $67,716 to work with four farms to plant 1,015 acres of cover crops over a three year period, to improve soil quality, reduce erosion, increase soil organic matter and improve resiliency to the farm from extreme weather conditions like floods & droughts.
State Police arrested 34 year old Rachel Howard of Burlington Flats for the Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a B.A.C. result of .18 and other traffic violations. This arrest occurred after a traffic stop when Howard was observed driving across hazard markings while on County Route 22 in the Town of Exeter. An investigation determined that she was driving while highly intoxicated. Howard was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Exeter Court on April 19, 2017.

The New York State Museum is opening a new exhibit on the Empire State’s experience in World War I. The exhibit titled “A Spirit of Sacrifice: New York State in the First World War” opens on Saturday, just over a week after the nation marked the 100th anniversary of the United States’ entry into the conflict fought from August 1914 to November 1918. The exhibit’s highlights include a life-size recreation of a trench on the Western Front. The exhibit at the downtown Albany museum runs through June 3, 2018. More than 500,000 New Yorkers served during WWI, the most of any state. Nearly 14,000 lost their lives.

State Police responded to a report of a motorcycle accident on State Route 28 in the Town of Exeter. 86-year-old Herbert Black of Remsen was operating his motorcycle on State Route 28 when he entered a curve in the roadway, he was unable to maintain his lane and struck a street sign & was ejected and suffered serious injuries to his head, neck and chest. Black was transported to Bassett Hospital where he was pronounced deceased, no autopsy would be required.

On Monday October 8th, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies and State Police responded to a reported bomb threat at the DCMO BOCES, Harrold Campus, in the Town of Masonville. The bomb threat was discovered written on a bathroom wall. The building was evacuated, a search found no explosive devises. Deputies have determined that a 14-year-old male was responsible for making the written threat. The youth and his legal guardian were subsequently issued a juvenile appearance ticket for the Delaware County Probation Department where the juvenile will answer a charge of Filing a False Report in the First Degree.

State Police in Norwich observed a 2007 Hummer traveling on State Route 12 in the Town of North Norwich; the vehicle matched the description of a stolen vehicle from Utica, and had been in a pursuit earlier in Oneida County. Several attempts to stop the driver were made and were stopped for safety reasons as the suspect approached the City of Norwich and then the Village of Greene. Troopers reported that as the vehicle entered Broome County, 2 Tire Deflation Devises were deployed, the front tires were disabled & the suspect continued to the Town of Chenango, and then fled the disabled vehicle and ran into the woods, A search by a State Police & Broome County Sheriff’s K-9 teams led to 17 year old La-Tee Baker of Utica, who was located near Otsinigo Park. Baker was charged with reckless endangerment and criminal possession of stolen property, he was arraigned at the Town of Chenango court and remanded to the Broome County jail with no bail set at this time.

The Oneonta police department special response team is scheduled to work in cooperation with the Greater Plains Elementary School to conduct a school lockdown drill on Thursday. The event will provide the Oneonta SRT Team to train in full gear, and it will give students & faculty a chance to become familiar with evacuation procedures in case of an emergency.

The 2015 Cyber Security Toolkit features awareness resources geared to a broad audience, including government, businesses, schools, and the general public. The Assembly Minority Task Force on Heroin Addiction & Community Response will hold a regional forum aimed at identifying problems and weaknesses in current efforts to combat the rampant heroin epidemic. Local Assemblyman Cliff Crouch & other lawmakers will participate on Tuesday, October 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the SUNY Broome Decker Health Science Center in Room D201.
