State Police issued a total of 13,471 tickets statewide during the Memorial Day Weekend enforcement campaign. Troopers arrested 194 people for DWI and investigated 839 crashes, including 130 personal injury crashes. No fatal crashes were reported. Troopers charged over 3800 for speeding, 373 for distracted driving, over 3000 for seat belt violations & 122 for the Move Over law.

27 year old Alexander Schwarz of Roxbury, was sentenced to a 4-month term of incarceration in the County Jail for violating the conditions of his probation supervision. Schwarz was convicted in Greene County for Attempted Sexual Abuse and was sentenced to a 10-year term of probation supervision. On March 19th, he violated the terms of his probation imposed by the Greene County Court by using an unauthorized device to view pornographic material, Schwarz appeared in Delaware County Court this week & admitted to the violation, he was sentenced to 4 months in the Delaware County Jail, then he will be required to complete his 10-year term of probation supervision.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 35 year old Tadd Sherwood of Morris following the investigation of a physical Domestic Dispute that took place May 26th in Morris. A Bench Warrant had been issued by the Otsego County Supreme Court based on this information as the Defendant had been previously charged and released on bail for Criminal Mischief, Assault, Criminal Contempt & other charges. Sherwood was arraigned at the Otsego County Supreme Court regarding this Bench Warrant and was charged with Criminal Contempt, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Imprisonment, Assault, Criminal Mischief & Disobeying a Court Mandate, he was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $5000 cash bail or $50,000 secured bond.

Serina Madden of the town of Colesville appeared in Broome County Court yesterday for a pre-trial hearing. Madden is accused of neglecting her daughter, 10 year old Belladonna Loke, who died in 2018, she had been disabled from Cerebral Palsy, the trial is expected to begin on July 22nd.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced that fugitive Lucinda Cirigliano has been found in North Carolina. Cirigliano was wanted on a warrant for Grand Larceny on May 1st, the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division received tips indicating Lucinda fled the state, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office tracked her to a relative’s address in North Carolina, she was taken into custody and is being held in the Mecklenburg County Jail where she refused to be extradited back to New York, a warrant from the Governor’s office is expected to be issued to return Cirigliano back to Broome County to face court action.

Johnson City police announced that the deceased male found last week in a wooded area was that of 42-year-old Shaun Cronin of Binghamton. Cronin’s remains were found by Johnson City employees last week near Columbia Drive and Fairview Street, a ruling on how Cronin died has not yet been made pending the conclusion of Toxicology testing. The autopsy did not suggest any suspicious circumstances; there were no injuries on Cronin’s body. State Police have been assisting Johnson City police with this investigation.

Governor Cuomo announced New York State is moving to join a lawsuit against the federal government for failing to enforce the Fair Housing Act. The lawsuit aims to force the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to enforce a rule requiring local and state governments to address segregated housing patterns as a condition of receiving federal housing funding. Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and the Delhi Emergency Squad responded Saturday to 2 ATV accidents in the Town of Hamden. 30 year old Michael Armstrong of Roxbury lost control of the ATV on a curve, struck a tree and sustained head injuries, his passenger, 28 year old Laura Armstrong was ejected, Both subjects were taken to O’Connor Hospital, Michael Armstrong was transferred to Bassett Hospital, where he is in critical condition. Laura Armstrong was treated and released. A 2nd ATV accident occurred when 27 year old Corey Hochbrueckner of Oneonta, struck Armstrong’s ATV; Hochbrueckner & 33 year old Ashley Joslin of Hamden, were injured. The investigation is continuing & alcohol was a contributing factor, charges are anticipated.

State Senator Jim Seward announced senate passage of legislation he sponsors to combat auto insurance fraud, by targeting criminals who stage auto accidents in attempts to profit from insurance claims. “Alice’s Law” was prompted by the 2003 death of Alice Ross, who was killed as a result of a staged auto accident. Binghamton Police announced the arrest of 23 year old Travon Sanders of Brooklyn, in connection with the shooting of 40 year old Grady Hunter, while Hunter was sitting in his car in front of 121 Susquehanna Street Sunday. Sanders were arrested in Endicott, he was charged with attempted 2nd degree Murder, he is being held in the Broome County jail pending future court action. Hunter was listed in critical condition at a Syracuse area Hospital.

State Police announced a statewide crackdown on distracted driving, as part of April’s designation as National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. From Thursday April 12th to Monday April 16th, Troopers will ticket drivers using handheld devices, like smartphones, during “Operation Hang Up”. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 3,450 people were killed in distraction-related crashes in 2016. During Last year’s event, State Police issued more than 2,000 tickets for distracted driving.

Norwich police arrested 32-year-old Andre Bryant of Norwich following a domestic dispute call. Bryant is accused of unlawfully entering a Diamond Street residence and assaulting a victim & intentionally damaging the victim’s property. The victim was treated and released at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Bryant was charged with 2nd-degree burglary, 3rd-degree assault, criminal mischief, resisting arrest and endangering the welfare of a child. Governor Cuomo announced that the law requiring law enforcement agencies to video record custodial interrogations with individuals accused of serious crimes, is now in effect. The law will help ensure the reliability of evidence that is later presented at trial and guard against false confessions. The law stipulates that law enforcement investigators are required to video record interrogations of individuals accused of most serious non-drug felonies, failure to record interrogations could result in a court determining that a confession is inadmissible as evidence.
