Biedekapp was charged with 2nd degree Criminal Trespass & was issued an appearance ticket returnable in the Town of Tompkins Court at a later date.

Governor Cuomo presented the second part of his “2015 Opportunity Agenda” Thursday at a presentation in Rochester, to discuss the $1.5 billion Upstate New York Economic Revitalization Competition to restore economic opportunity to the Upstate regions.

The proposed competition uses the Buffalo Billion’s proven model, Projects exhibiting region-wide impact will be made a priority and should focus on strengthening critical infrastructure, revitalizing communities, bolstering workforce development, growing tourism, and improving quality of life. 7 regions are eligible to compete for 1 of 3 $500 million upstate revitalization funds.

Governor Cuomo recently asked the Gaming Casino Location Siting Board to consider awarding the 4th casino license to the Southern Tier Region, after awarding only 3 licenses out of 4 last month. Area State Senator John Bonacic stated that the Sullivan County choice in his district is outstanding, and should be fast-tracked to get open quickly, before considering Tioga downs:

Bonacic said that the casino in Sullivan County is projected to being over 20 million dollars a year in extra revenue to the Sullivan & Orange County areas due to the expected increased tourism to the area because of the new casino.

Nigel Saunders was found guilty of 2 counts of 2nd degree murder, 1st degree burglary 1st degree robbery and 2nd degree assault in Broome County court this morning. Saunders was on trial for the murder of 23-year-old Jordan Dordell & his fiancé in Binghamton, after only 3 hours of deliberation. Saunders will be sentenced on March 27th.

The state Department of Health inappropriately paid more than 29,000 pharmacy claims worth nearly $1 million over a 27-month period for thousands of Medicaid recipients whose benefits were already covered by other plans, according to an audit released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. A second audit released today found another $61,711 in overpayments to providers because of incorrect Medicare coinsurance, copayment or deductible amounts. DiNapoli recommended that the DOH Review and recover improper overpayments; instruct providers to bill Medicare Part C claims in accordance with existing requirements, & assess all claims that auditors did not examine in detail and determine if overpayments were made that warrant recovery.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown announced today that an Arizona Diamondbacks logo will appear on the cap of the Hall of Fame plaque for 2015 Hall of Fame electee Randy Johnson. The cap selections for Pedro Martinez and John Smoltz will be announced on January 22nd Craig Biggio played his entire career with the Houston Astros. This year’s Hall of Fame Class will be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday, July 26th in Cooperstown.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Department arrested 19-year-old Maxwell Horton of Sherburne for unlawful possession of marihuana. Deputies arrested Horton following a traffic stop for vehicle and traffic violations and during the investigation of the traffic stop deputies found Horton to be in possession of marihuana. Horton was released on an appearance ticket for Village of Sherburne court on a later date.

Jury Selection began yesterday in Broome County Court for the trial of Nigel Saunders, who was charged with 2 counts of 2nd degree murder, plus 2nd degree assault, 1st degree burglary and 1st degree robbery. Saunders is accused, along with Julian Talamantez of breaking into the home of Jordan Dordell in Binghamton on November 4th 2013, where they allegedly beat, stabbed and set on fire Dordell & His pregnant Fiancé; she was also sexually assaulted in the attack. Saunders and Talamantez then allegedly stole from the home and set it on fire. Talamantez pleaded guilty for his role in the case last year, he was sentenced to 25 years to life in jail. Jury selection in the Saunders trial continues this morning in Broome County Court.

Endicott native & UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones has entered a drug rehab facility, after failing a drug test last month. Jones tested positive for a substance, found in cocaine. Jones released a statement where he stated that he has entered into a drug treatment facility.

Talamantez and 25-year-old Nigel Saunders are accused of breaking into the Dordell home & beating, stabbing & setting fire to the victims, Dordell was killed and his fiancée was injured. Saunders faces trial on the same charges shortly.

Firefighters from several department responded to a house fire in the attic at 7 Cherry Street near West Street in Oneonta this morning. The fire was confined to the attic by firefighters, 2 firefighters suffered minor injuries & were taken to Fox Hospital for treatment. Fire Fighters from Oneonta as well as Franklin, Worcester, Sidney and Otego responded to the fire that was reported at around 6:30 this morning by a neighbor. The building was empty and was reportedly unoccupied, police are investigating; the cause of the fire has not yet been determined

Broome County sheriff’s department arrested 31-year-old Christopher Wolfson of Binghamton & 23 year old Sierra Barnett of Binghamton on drug charges following a traffic stop in the town of Chenango where Heroin was discovered in the vehicle. Wolfson was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, Barnett was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, both were remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility without bail pending future court proceedings.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division arrested 48-year-old James Kelsey of Lincklaen for Criminal Possession of Marihuana & Unlawfully Growing Cannabis. Narcotics Detectives responded Friday to the report of marihuana growing in plain view. The investigation also revealed additional marihuana plants on Kelsey’s property as well as 1 pound of processed marihuana in the residence. Kelsey is scheduled to appear in the Town of Lincklaen Court at a later date.

The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance reminded New Yorkers who requested a filing extension, that the October 15th is the deadline to file their State income tax return. So far, 54% have yet to file with only 2 days to the deadline. Department officials are urging late filers to e-file in order to make it before the deadline, to avoid fines and additional fees, or to get refunds twice as fast. More information is available at tax.ny.gov.

In the Town of Masonville, Republican Michael Spaccaforno is re-elected Supervisor. Steven Roff and Betty Scott are elected to the town board.

In the town of Davenport, Dennis Valente was re-elected as supervisor. Republicans kitty Ballard and William Hansen won town board seats.

New York voters approved of 5 of the 6 propositions on the ballot yesterday.  Voters approved casino gambling, the only proposition to be voted down, would have raised the retirement age for certain judges to 80.

Binghamton police have identified the murder victim from Monday as 22 year old Jordan Dordell, who was Beaten, stabbed, bound, & set on fire, his 19 year old pregnant girlfriend was taken to Wilson Hospital where she is in critical condition, but is expected to survive.  25 year old Nigel Saunders and 21 year old Julian Talamantez were arraigned Tuesday on felony counts of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder, they were sent to the Broome County jail without bail.
