Former Governor Andrew Cuomo has filed an ethics complaint against state Attorney General Letitia James, regarding the sexual harassment investigation that led to Cuomo’s resignation last year. Cuomo’s lawsuit claims that James launched the investigation to tarnish Cuomo’s reputation to further her own political interests. James briefly ran for governor after Cuomo’s resignation and dropped out after a short period of time.

State Police arrested 19 year old Alec Hollenbeck of Lincklaen and 53 year old Duane Hollenbeck of Moravia after an investigation regarding ghost guns and large capacity ammunition feeding devices that are illegal in New York State. Both were charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Alec Hollenbeck was arraigned & was released on his own recognizance, & faces court action today, Duane Hollenbeck was arraigned and was released on his own recognizance, he appear in Lincklaen Town Court on September 20th.

State Police arrested 56 year old Francesco Carotenuto of Schenevus for Promoting Sexual Performance by a Child and Possessing Sexual Performance by a Child. An investigation revealed that Carotenuto was in possession of and promoting images consistent with child sexual exploitation via the internet. While at Carotenuto’s residence, Troopers observed seven adult dogs who did not have adequate food, water or shelter. The dogs were turned over to the care of the Otsego County SPCA. He was additionally charged with New York Agriculture and Market Law of Overdriving, Torturing, and Injuring Animals, a misdemeanor. Carotenuto was arraigned at Otsego County Central Arraignment and Processing and remanded to the jail on $20,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled at the Maryland Town Court on September 13, 2022.

The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that 58 year old Loretta Washington of Binghamton was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison followed by 2 1/2 years of post-release supervision, after pleading guilty to attempted arson. Washington set fire to a doormat that was outside of an apartment last October in Binghamton, the fire was quickly extinguished and that there were no injuries.

State Police arrested 35 year old Tadd Sherwood of Oneonta for 2nd degree attempted murder after he allegedly fired a shotgun in a residential area Saturday in the town of Unadilla, that could have caused the death of another person. Sherwood was arraigned and was remanded to the Otsego County Jail without bail pending future court action.

22-year-old Julian Talamantez was sentenced Friday in Broome county court to 40 years in prison for 1st degree murder and 1st degree attempted murder, in connection with the attack on 22-year-old Jordan Dordell and his 19-year-old pregnant girlfriend in Binghamton. Talamantez and 25-year-old Nigel Saunders are accused of breaking into the Dordell home & beating, stabbing & setting fire to the victims, Dordell was killed and his fiancée was injured. Saunders faces trial on the same charges shortly.

Firefighters from several department responded to a house fire in the attic at 7 Cherry Street near West Street in Oneonta this morning. The fire was confined to the attic by firefighters, 2 firefighters suffered minor injuries & were taken to Fox Hospital for treatment. Fire Fighters from Oneonta as well as Franklin, Worcester, Sidney and Otego responded to the fire that was reported at around 6:30 this morning by a neighbor. The building was empty and was reportedly unoccupied, police are investigating; the cause of the fire has not yet been determined

Broome County sheriff’s department arrested 31-year-old Christopher Wolfson of Binghamton & 23 year old Sierra Barnett of Binghamton on drug charges following a traffic stop in the town of Chenango where Heroin was discovered in the vehicle. Wolfson was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, Barnett was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, both were remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility without bail pending future court proceedings.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division arrested 48-year-old James Kelsey of Lincklaen for Criminal Possession of Marihuana & Unlawfully Growing Cannabis. Narcotics Detectives responded Friday to the report of marihuana growing in plain view. The investigation also revealed additional marihuana plants on Kelsey’s property as well as 1 pound of processed marihuana in the residence. Kelsey is scheduled to appear in the Town of Lincklaen Court at a later date.

The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance reminded New Yorkers who requested a filing extension, that the October 15th is the deadline to file their State income tax return. So far, 54% have yet to file with only 2 days to the deadline. Department officials are urging late filers to e-file in order to make it before the deadline, to avoid fines and additional fees, or to get refunds twice as fast. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on South State Street in Norwich to execute a bench warrant issued by Town of Norwich Court. 6 people were arrested, including 32-year-old Cheryl Myers of Norwich for False personation and failure to appear on a prior charge of petit larceny. Also charged were 34-year-old Sean Beam of Norwich, 32-year-old Eric Carpenter of Plymouth, 18-year-old Lexus Armstrong of Oxford, 34-year-old Nadine Button of Norwich and an unidentified 16-year-old youth, all for Obstruction of Governmental Administration. Myers was arraigned and sent to the Chenango County Jail on $500 bail pending future court action, the other 5 defendants were issued appearance tickets and will appear in City of Norwich Court at a later date.

State Police conducted an Underage Drinker Initiative detail at 16 different convenience stores in Otsego and Delaware Counties. 50-year-old Eugene Rowell, at the Hess Express on Main Street in Oneonta, and 21-year-old James Erwin at the Sunoco Country Store in Delhi, were charged with Underage Sale of Alcohol. Rowell was issued an Appearance ticket for City of Oneonta Court on February 13^th. Erwin was issued an Appearance ticket will appear in Delhi Court on February 12^th.

State police in Sidney arrested 46-year-old Scott Meyerholz of Bradenton, Florida, for Driving While Under the Influence of Drugs. The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle accident investigation in Masonville; Meyerholz was arraigned in the Town of Masonville Court and remanded to the Delaware County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail.

Chenango county sheriff’s deputies arrested 45 year old Kevin Bush of Lincklaen for DWI, Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, open container in a motor vehicle and failure to keep right following a traffic stop on County Rd 12B in the Town of Lincklaen. Bush was issued an appearance ticket for Town of Lincklaen court at a later date. Bush was released to a sober third party.

The Oxford Village Board voted in favor of Chenango county’s first hydrofracking ban. The ban passed by a 4 to 1 vote; it calls for the banning of gas exploration, extraction and disposal within the village. Several other municipalities in Chenango county are contemplating similar bans currently.

The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 21-year-old Ethan Rounds of South Otselic on an active arrest warrant issued for 2^nd degree Criminal Contempt. Rounds allegedly used vulgar and offensive language during an official court proceeding in the Town of Otselic court after being warned, he was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional facility on $5,000 cash bail and will re-appear in court at a later date.

The latest Sienna Poll shows that the proposed Casino Amendment is supported by a 48% to 42% margin. The measure requires passage in 2 consecutive sessions of the state legislature, followed by voter approval on the November ballot; the legislature did pass it in year number 1 last year. Governor Cuomo suggests that the majority of casinos would be in the Catskill region & Hudson valley, in order to take advantage of the proximity to New York City’s population.
