Delaware County District Attorney’s Office announced that 45 year old Luke Lupo of Walton appeared in Delaware County Court Monday and pleaded guilty to 3rd degree Burglary. Lupo admitted that in April of 2022, he entered a building owned by Herman’s Trailer Sales and Service in Walton, and stole property, he will be sentenced to 5 years of felony probation supervision and ordered to pay restitution to the victim. Sentencing was scheduled for January 16, 2024.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced nearly $16 million is being awarded through Round 7 of the Climate Resilient Farming Grant Program to help 116 farms address the impacts of climate change. The selected projects will reduce greenhouse gases by an estimated 64,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year, the equivalent of eliminating over 14,000 cars from the road for 1 year, In the Southern Tier, $1.8 Million Dollars will be split up among 11 farms.

22 year old Dakota Mann of Walton pleaded guilty to Criminal Contempt in Delaware County Court Monday. Mann admitted that he was aware of an order of protection prohibiting him from having contact with the protected party, he had contact with the victim and “engaged in a domestic dispute.” he will be sentenced to 1 year in the Delaware County Correction Facility upon sentencing on November 27th.

The Chenango County Health Department is hosting a COVID-19 vaccine clinic for uninsured and under-insured individuals through the Bridge Access Program. This COVID-19 vaccine clinic is for 18 years of age and older, it will be held November 16th &17th, from 9-11 am and 1-3 pm at 5 Court Street Norwich. Appointments can be made at 607-337-1660.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that more than $57 million has been awarded to support 238 projects across New York State through the Regional Economic Development Council initiative. Sportsfield Specialties will receive a $500,000 Grant & a $1.5 Million Excelsior Jobs Tax Credit, to expand its manufacturing operations in Delhi, by utilizing vacant property adjacent to its existing site. The proposed project will include a 60,000 square-foot manufacturing plant expansion with modern equipment, a new office complex, mechanical shop and storage, the Total Project Cost will be $27.5 Million.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s office arrested 26 year old Jonathan Stein of Delhi on an arrest warrant from Otsego County. Deputies assisted the Cooperstown Police Department in locating Stein who was wanted for Criminal Contempt, he was located Tuesday & was turned over to the Cooperstown Police Department to be arraigned at Otsego County Centralized Arraignment Court in Otsego County on the charges.

Governor Hochul announced $5 million is available to support animal shelters and humane societies in making infrastructure upgrades. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant Tuesday at 44 Narwood Street in Johnson City, they seized Fentanyl pills, Oxycodone Pills, digital scales and packaging materials, an illegally possessed and loaded handgun, 37 year old Donald Galloway and 21 year old Tyana Campbell were charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, they were processed and transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 26 year old Kyle Buckley of Masonville on an arrest warrant issued by the Town of Hamden Court. On October 23rd, Deputies received an arrest warrant for Buckley stemming from a previous charges of Aggravated Unlicensed Operator, and Improper Passing on the Right, Buckley was located Tuesday & Deputies arrested Buckley, he was held for the Delaware County Centralized Arraignment Court and later released to reappear at the Town Of Hamden Court at a later date.

The State Department of Transportation will host a public information meeting at 5:30 pm. Tuesday, November 14, at the Oneonta High School, pertaining to a project to reconstruct the intersection of Maple Street & State Route 7 in the City of Oneonta. The project would replace an existing signalized intersection with a single-lane roundabout, plus new sidewalks, crosswalks and a multi-use path for bicyclists and pedestrians. Otsego County Department of Health reported 21 new COVID 19 cases Wednesday, the county remains at a High level of community transmission. The CDC & Otsego County Department of Health recommend everyone, even those who are fully vaccinated, to continue to wear a mask indoors in public if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission, to maximize protection from the Delta variant and prevent possibly spreading it to others. Otsego County reports a Vaccination Rate of 56.1% of total population fully vaccinated.

The State Police, the State DOT and the Thruway Authority announced that State Police and local law enforcement agencies issued a record number of tickets during 2021’s Operation Hardhat, which is a joint initiative to crack down on work zone violations and highlight the importance of safe driving when encountering construction, maintenance and emergency operations along state highways. A total of 2,336 tickets were issued during Operation Hardhat details this year, breaking the previous record of 2,018 tickets set during 2020. The region with the highest number of Tickets was the Southern Tier, with 490.

State Senator Peter Oberacker announced that Construction Mechanic First Class Richard Scheiner or Worcester is the first veteran from his district to be inducted into the State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame. Governor Kathy Hochul announced the “Bring Back Tourism, Bring Back Jobs” initiative, to revitalize the industry that was severely curtailed because of the pandemic. $100 million will be used for a worker recovery fund, which will pay up to 36,000 workers $2,700 if they qualify, another $100 million will go toward the tourism return-to-work grant program, which will pay businesses for employee retention. Companies can get up to $5,000 for each new full-time employee and $2,500 for part-time workers, as long as they stay for more than 6 months.

The State Health Department reported that 75% of all New Yorkers have received at least 1 COVID 19 vaccine dose, the numbers are expected to go up quickly as children ages 5 to 11 are now eligible for a children’s dose of the vaccine. On Monday, there were 1,878 New Yorkers hospitalized with COVID-19, the 7-day rolling positivity average was 2.65%, which is up from 2.24% in the previous week, local County Health Departments have reported lower vaccine rates & higher positivity rates in their COVID testing.

New York Attorney General Letitia James announced an agreement had been reached with Ticket Fulfillment Services and 5 ticket resale websites to give money back to people who had tickets to an event that was canceled because of COVID-19 pandemic. The $4.4 million settlement means that thousands of New Yorkers who were denied refunds for events, will be refunded. New Yorkers who purchased tickets to an event through TFS or its affiliates go to customer support on the website where the tickets were purchased initially, for a full refund.

The New York State Office of Cannabis Management announced the availability of a web-based portal at cannabis.ny.gov/local-government, through which localities seeking to opt-out of hosting cannabis retail dispensary and/or on-site cannabis consumption licensees within their jurisdictions, can easily send their requests to the state Cannabis Control Board. The new state Marijuana Regulation & Taxation Act gives cities, towns, and villages until December 31, 2021 to pass a local law that makes a request to the state Cannabis Control Board to opt their jurisdiction out of hosting retail and/or on-site cannabis consumption licensees. Localities that opt-out by December 31, 2021, can always opt back in. After the December 31 deadline has passed, the Office of Cannabis Management will compile the information provided by localities and make it public so that those seeking a license will have the information they need to find jurisdictions in which they can operate.

State Police responded to a fatal accident Saturday involving a pedestrian. The incident occurred on State Highway 17C near exit 69 in the town of Union, where 38 year old Wesley Conklin entered the roadway and was stuck by 2 vehicles. Conklin was pronounced deceased at the scene, no criminal charges will be filed. State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Collision Reconstruction Unit, Johnson City Fire and the Broome County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.

Governor Cuomo signed legislation passed by the Legislature, to protect barbershops, beauty shops and salon service providers against individuals who steal their services. The new law will make it a class A misdemeanor, for those who fail to pay for services provided by a barbershop, salon, or beauty shop. Under previous law, an individual who knowingly failed to pay for those services was not subject to criminal prosecution, leaving certain small business owners at risk of financial loss with little recourse.

State Police arrested 29-year-old Roger Elam of Davenport, for being a fugitive from justice from Alabama and DWI with a B.A.C. of 0.15%. This arrest occurred after a traffic stop where Elam was observed speeding and driving across hazard markings while on Main Street, in the Town of Oneonta. Elam was wanted in Alabama for felony of theft of property, he was arraigned in the City of Oneonta court and was remanded to the Otsego County jail. His next court date is pending.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested Gregory Collins of Smithville, for 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminally Possessing a Hypodermic Instrument, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, following the report of a domestic dispute. Collins was in possession of several bags of Heroin, Oxycodone Pills, and drug paraphernalia. Collins was released on an appearance ticket and is to appear in the Town of Smithville Court at a later date to answer to his charges.

State Police are investigating an incident with an Afton school bus on Long Hill Road Monday. 1 of the district’s buses slid off the road and got stuck in a ditch, a few students were treated for minor bumps and bruises by the school nurse, another bus brought the students to school.

The next forum will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM at the Oneonta High School Auditorium.

The Sidney Landowners Coalition announced that Acting Supreme Court Justice John Lambert has ruled to invalidate the Town of Sidney’s  1 year Gas Drilling Moratorium.  The Law was approved by only 3 of the 5 member Town Board, attorneys for the coalition argued that their decision required a super majority vote of 4 or 5 members, as the County planning Board disapproved the law, and the protest petition from the owners of more than 20% of the town land was presented to the Town Board.  The Sidney Town Board is allowed to appeal the decision.

NEWS TUESDAY 2-26-13 http://www.wcdoonline.com/localnews/a-m-news-tuesday-2-26-13/ Tue, 26 Feb 2013 20:28:08 +0000 http://www.wcdoonline.com/localnews/?p=608 Continue reading ]]> State Senator Jim Seward and State Senator John Flanagan will be in Delaware and Otsego Counties, Today.  Senator Seward and Senator Flanagan will tour the Franklin Central School at 1:15 and meet with Franklin School Superintendent Gordon Daniels, board of education members, and local elected officials including Village of Franklin Mayor John Campbell.  Seward and Flanagan will then convene a roundtable discussion at 4:10 at the Oneonta High School with school superintendents and board of education members from throughout Otsego and Delaware Counties to discuss the governor’s budget proposals for education and other topics related to the future of education in New York State.

About 40 people were left homeless in an apartment building fire on Main Street in Binghamton.  The fire started Sunday and continued through Monday, firefighters finally put out the last hot spots about 24 hours after the first call.  The Red Cross is assisting displaced residents; the cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.

The Sidney chamber of commerce will hold their next Business After Hours program, at Nichols Counseling & Psychotherapy & Riverview Day Spa.  The event runs from 5:00 to 7:00 pm today at 22 Weir Street in Sidney.
