Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 41 year old Gerald Johnson of Oneonta on an Sealed Indictment Arrest Warrant issued by the Delaware County Grand Jury. On April 16th, the Delaware County Criminal Investigations Unit and Road Patrol division, Otsego County Sheriff’s Office and State Police responded to a residence in the Town of Oneonta, Johnson was located and arrested in Lantern Hill Mobile Home Park in the Town of Oneonta. Johnson was charged with 3 counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, 2 counts of Grand Larceny, and 1 count of Petty Larceny, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $30,000.00 cash bail Or $100,000.00 secured bond. Johnson is scheduled to appear in the Delaware County Court at a later date.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying a white truck regarding 2 separate burglaries to a barn on Bryce Road in the Town of Sanford. Video of the truck in question can be viewed at the Broome County Sheriff’s You Tube page. Delaware County District Attorney’s Office announced that 45 year old Hayes Cutting of Bainbridge pleaded guilty to 1 Count of Aggravated Family Offense in Delaware County Court Monday. Cutting admitted that on January 28, 2023, in the Village of Sidney, he intentionally choked an 18-year-old female, he will be sentenced to a state prison for 1.5 to 3 years, he is currently serving a 5-year state prison sentence for unrelated assault charges.

Delaware County District Attorney’s office announced that 28 year old Jessica Lopez of Sidney was convicted of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Delaware County Court Monday. Lopez appeared in Delaware County Court for an arraignment on drug related charges, she pleaded guilt after she admitted that she possessed fentanyl in the Village of Sidney on February 27, she intended to sell. Lopez will be sentenced to 6.5 years in state prison, and 2 years of post-release supervision on June 10th.

38 year old Tristan Skeete of Brooklyn was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury, on one count of Assault, On February 20, Skeete allegedly caused physical injury to another inmate at the Delaware County Correctional Facility, where he was being held as a federal inmate for violating the terms of his post-release supervision. Skeete can face up to 7 years in state prison.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested a current Delaware County Inmate. Last Friday, Investigators of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office received information that 48-year-old Deanna Besser of Brooklyn was a fugitive from the State of Pennsylvania, with outstanding warrants for failure to appear on a total of 16 separate charges not related to the Delaware County charges. At the conclusion of their investigation, Sheriff’s Investigators arrested Besser on a Fugitive from Justice complaint. Besser was later arraigned at the Delaware County CAP court and was remanded back to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending extradition back to the State of Pennsylvania.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced recommendations by the State Board for Historic Preservation to add 15 properties to the State and National Registers of Historic Places. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 37 year old Matthew Romano of Unadilla for Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle following a property damaged motor vehicle accident in the Town of Oneonta. The United States Marine Corps Reserve today announced the schedule for the 2023 U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Train. State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Binghamton arrested 48 year old Stacie Congdon of Windsor for 3rd degree Grand Larceny. An investigation revealed that while volunteering for the Windsor Town Fair, Congdon made several unauthorized debit card purchases and cash withdrawals totaling over $10,000 between May and September 2023. Congdon was arrested and then turned over to the Broome County Correctional Facility for Arraignment. On September 29, Congdon was arrested for 2nd degree Grand Larceny, for allegedly stealing over $50,000 from the nonprofit, Punch Out Parkinson’s Inc.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 59 year old Edward Orezzoli for Official Misconduct following an investigation in the Town of Otsego on September 18th. Orezzoli was charged after a complaint in the Town of Otsego, where Orezzoli allegedly arrived at a residence in the Town of Otsego and provided the homeowner with his government identification before entering the residence without permission. The homeowner contacted 911 and deputies responded, however Orezzoli left prior to the arrival of law enforcement, he was located in the Town of Milford & was taken in to custody, he was processed and released with an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Otsego Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 18 year old Craig Longo of Rocky Point for driving while ability impaired by drugs, and criminal possession of a weapon. On September 24th, Deputies were assisting Delhi Police, State Police, and SUNY Delhi Police with a failure to comply traffic violator in the Village of Delhi. Patrols located the vehicle in question on Back River Road in the Town of Delhi, and that Longo had been operating the vehicle, he was released on appearance tickets and directed to appear at the Town of Delhi court at a later date to answer the charges.

State Police Traffic Incident Management Unit issued a total of 38 tickets in Broome County during an “Operation Hard Hat” detail. Troopers monitored traffic on State Route 17 in the town of Sanford where road crews were doing construction work. 9 tickets were issued for speeding, 4 for using a cellphone while driving, 18 were seat belts violations & 9 other assorted tickets were issued last Thursday.

A contraband investigation led to multiple drug smuggling charges at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility this week. 36 year old Jamell Jones was charged with 2 Counts of Promoting Prison Contraband, 2 Counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence, plus Obstructing Governmental Administration. Jones became uncooperative, & was combative with investigators, Jones was placed in a Medical Housing Unit under Contraband Protocol to monitor his health and prevent a possible overdose from the Methamphetamines that were smuggled on his person. Jones was processed at the Broome County Correctional Facility and will answer for his charges at the Town of Dickinson Court on a future date.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that applications are open for $500 million from the state Budget to bolster New York’s child care workforce through the Workforce Retention Grant Program. Funding will support approximately 150,000 direct child care staff through financial incentives ranging from $2,300 to $3,000 in retention and referral bonuses for existing staff as well as sign-on bonuses for new staff. Cooperstown Cheese Company based in Milford, New York announced a recall of over 1400 pounds of cheese, The recalled cheese was purchased, sold or distributed from June 21st to July 10th, They were distributed in New York State through farmers markets, restaurants and retail stores. All recalled products are labeled with Cooperstown Cheese Company labels which contain the company contact information. The FDA reported that the products were recalled due to a potential to be contaminated with Listeria.

The Binghamton Black Bears announced an agreement to play at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena through the 2026 season, The Black Bears set a Federal Prospects Hockey League record in attendance with 107,000 fans over the course of the 2022-2023 season. A raccoon in the Town of Kortright has tested positive for rabies. This is the third animal in Delaware County to test positive for rabies in 2023. One person was exposed to the rabid raccoon and has begun Rabies Post-Exposure Prophylaxis. No domestic animals were exposed to the rabid raccoon. Public Health recommends that pet owners take advantage of any of the free remaining rabies clinics for cats, dogs, and ferrets in Delaware County.

The State Police issued a total of 38,363 tickets statewide during the National “Click It or Ticket” enforcement campaign which ran from May 22nd to June 4th. Troopers arrested 399 people for DWI and investigated 2,436 crashes, including 410 personal injury crashes and 2 fatal crashes. Troopers wrote over 10,600 tickets for speeding, over 1300 for Distracted Driving, over 8400 for Seat-belt violations & 337 for violating the Move Over Law.

Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 44 year old Shaun Kozak of the Town of Maine following a series of larcenies at several NYSEG substations and other electrical facilities. Detectives discovered a large amount of industrial electrical equipment consistent with several reported larcenies, after conducting a search of Kozak’s Garage, he was charged with 3rd degree Burglary, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property & 4th degree Grand Larceny, Kozak was taken to the Broome County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

Attorney General Letitia James announced the final approval of $17.3 billion in opioid agreements with drug makers Teva Pharmaceuticals and Allergan and pharmacies CVS and Walgreens, which includes over $1 billion for New York State. The settlement requires Teva to operate under a monitor to prevent all opioid marketing, CVS and Walgreens are required to monitor, report, and share data about suspicious activity related to opioid prescriptions.

Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Tuesday to a report of a physical injury domestic dispute in the Town of Binghamton, they found a female victim with lacerations, 38 year old Adam Gurney of Binghamton, was arrested, after deputies found that he had a full Stay Away Order of Protection against him, he also had an outstanding arrest warrant through the Town of Vestal, for violating an order of protection. Gurney was charged with Criminal Contempt, Aggravated Family Offense, Criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, he was arraigned and has remained in custody of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 45 year old Leo Guerrero of the Town of Otsego, for criminal mischief & Harassment, following the report of a domestic dispute on March 5th. Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 14.1% in February compared to the same month in 2022, according to an analysis released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Overall, local collections totaled $1.64 billion, up $203 million compared to the same time last year. New York City’s collections totaled $718 million, an increase of 11.6%, or $74.5 million, over February of 2022. All counties experienced strong increases in February collections, with most seeing double-digit growth.

Joe Ermeti of Sidney announced his candidacy for Delaware County District Attorney, the position is on the ballot this year following the election of former District Attorney John Hubbard to the position of County Court Judge. Ermeti has been an attorney for more that 30 years of experience as an attorney, he has served as Town of Sidney Attorney, Village of Bainbridge Attorney, and Otsego County Assistant Public Defender, and operated his own law office in Sidney from 1993 until 2019. Former Otsego County Sheriff Donald Mundy has passed away. Mundy served as the Sheriff from 1993 until 2006, he also founded the Otsego County Law Enforcement Academy in 1995 which still trains Law Enforcement Officers throughout the region, he also served as a New York State Trooper from 1963 to 1985.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 23 year old Caitlyn Crandall of Sidney after a warrant was issued for her arrest by the Delaware County Family Court. Deputies arrested Crandall Wednesday afternoon, she was arraigned at the Village of Sidney Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on no bail, and was directed to appear in Family Court when it was next in session.

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced that the Greater Binghamton Airport will receive $7 million for renovations of the passenger terminal and the associated vehicle approach, with upgrades to the passenger hold room, & the replacement of the airport’s outdated Air Conditioning equipment, & for the installation of 2 passenger-boarding bridges. The funding comes from the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Law. The Albany, Buffalo and Syracuse airports also received funding.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 43 year old Hayes Cutting Jr of Bainbridge, for 2nd degree assault, Tampering with Physical Evidence, unlawfully fleeing a police officer and resisting arrest, following the investigation into the assault of Norwich Police Officer with a motor vehicle on Monday in Norwich, while attempting to take Cutting into custody on an active warrant. State Police responded to the Town of Oneonta after a tip that Cutting was there, Cutting was found hiding in the ceiling of a building, he was held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility on a State Parole Warrant and will appear in the Town of Norwich Court for the new charges. The passenger in Cutting’s vehicle, Jesse Dann, had an unrelated warrant out for his arrest and was taken into custody.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force, and local Police agencies, arrested 32 year old Cody Dickson of the Town of Maine man on 17 charges. The Task Force executed a search warrant at 383 Kolb Road, they seized over $10,000 in methamphetamine, plus weapons, high capacity magazines and ammunition. Dickson was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminal Possession of a Weapon, plus Criminal Possession of Stolen Property & Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, Dickson faces court action shortly.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchack announced that 26-year-old Kout Akol of Binghamton was sentenced for Manslaughter, Criminal Possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence, and endangering the welfare of a child, in Broome County Court, for the fatal stabbing of 27-year-old Takecia Mitchell in Binghamton, Akol was sentenced to 25 years in state prison, followed by 5 years of post-release Supervision.

Walton Fire Department responded Sunday afternoon to a structure fire at 3664 East Brook Road. Firefighters found that the garage was fully engulfed, and had spread to a nearby house mutual aid was requested from Delhi, Franklin, and Treadwell firefighters, The occupants escaped, 1 cat died from the blaze. Walton Firefighters returned Monday morning to extinguish hot spots. The house and garage were a total loss. A pellet stove is believed to have started the fire, which has been ruled as accidental.

Broome County District Attorney’s office announced that Dillon Thomas pleaded guilty to Attempted Assault in Broome County Court. Thomas admitted to cutting a woman’s hand with a knife during a domestic incident at the Econo Lodge in the Town of Dickinson, he was sentenced to 2 to 4 years in state prison. He was previously convicted of Attempted Burglary in Broome County in 2016.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 20 year old Tori Johnson following a traffic stop in the Town of Edmeston on January 20th. Johnson was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operator, Uninspected Motor Vehicle, for operating an uninspected motor vehicle on a public highway, with a suspended New York State driver’s license, Johnson will appear in the Town of Edmeston Court on a later date.

Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded last Tuesday to a domestic incident at the Knights Inn in the Town of Union and arrested 60 year old Samuel Stukes of Endicott. Stukes was in violation of an order of protection and was wanted by the Binghamton Police Department. Deputies heard a disturbance coming from the rear of the motel building at the same address, 43 year old Keith Johnson of Endicott was found engaging in a physical fight a 15-year-old child, he resisted arrest, tried to fight with deputies and was tased and subdued. Johnson was charged with 5 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, & 1 count each of Obstruction, Resisting Arrest & Harassment. Both Stukes and Johnson were taken into custody.

State Police are searching for 58 year old Jan Dager of Salisbury in Herkimer County. Dager has been missing since January 10th, he was last seen wearing black sweatpants and a black T-shirt, with no jacket, he is 5’8″ & about 225 pounds with white hair, he left in an unknown direction, he did not have a cell phone with him. The State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that beginning Monday, the on and off ramps at Exit 5 of Northbound I-81 and U.S. 11 will be closed for approximately one week to facilitate a bridge replacement project in the Town of Dickinson. 18 year old Payton Gendron of Conklin was indicted by a Grand Jury for 1st Degree Murder today, for the murder of 10 people at a Tops Supermarket in Buffalo. Gendron is accused of purposely picking out the Tops Market due to the neighborhoods largely Black Population, 10 people were killed and 3 others were injured in the Saturday shooting 11of the 13 victims were Black. The Investigation is now being headed up by the FBI, more charges may be forthcoming.

Governor Kathy Hochul unveiled a package aimed at fighting domestic terrorism and closing loopholes in state gun laws and cracking down on social media platforms that host violent content. The announcement comes after the mass shooting in Hochul’s hometown of Buffalo. The first Executive Order is designed to fight domestic terrorism and violent extremism on social media, the State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services will establish a new unit that focuses on domestic terrorism, the 2nd Executive Order will call on the State Police to create a dedicated unit to identify possible threats through social media analysis.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded May 8th, to Delhi for a reported domestic dispute in progress. 33-year-old Amanda Prevost and 30-year old Anthony Prevost were involved in a physical altercation, in the presence of a child less than 17 years of age. Deputies arrested Amanda and Anthony Prevost and charged them with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, both parties were released on appearance tickets for Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

The State Department of Labor announced that the number of private sector jobs in the State increased over the month by 23,600, to 7,937,300 in April. New York State’s unemployment rate decreased from 4.6% to 4.5% in April, in April of 2021, the unemployment rate was 7.7%.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced the introduction of the Emergency Infant Formula Act, to try to increase domestic production and expand sourcing of formula in order to alleviate the current crisis and prevent future shortages.

Senator Gillibrand said that following a recall at Abbott Nutrition, roughly 40% of formula nationwide is out of stock, compounded by supply chain disruptions as a result of the pandemic, The FDA gave Abbott the go-ahead to begin producing formula again at the Sturgis Michigan facility, but it will likely take many weeks to get shelves filled again at retail stores throughout the state.

The New York State Department of Health alerted New Yorkers that seasonal flu rates are rising statewide and recommended that the public take the same precautions as they follow with COVID-19 – stay home if you have any symptoms, consult your physician, get tested and get treatment, and wear a mask in indoor public spaces. The week ending May 7 saw statewide positive flu rates increase by 25 percent from the previous week, the 25th consecutive week widespread influenza has been reported.

The New York State Division of Human Rights has filed a complaint against Amazon, alleging the company engages in discrimination against pregnant workers and workers with disabilities by denying them reasonable accommodations. The Division also alleges that Amazon has policies that force pregnant workers and workers with disabilities to take an unpaid leave of absence rather than allowing them to work with a reasonable accommodation, more information is available at dhr.ny.gov.

Chenango County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Village of Oxford couple for Cruelty to Animals.  The investigation began after a citizen located an abandoned and neglected American Bulldog in North Norwich; it was brought to a Veterinarian for treatment.   Deputies arrested 23 year old Monica Towndrow of Oxford for Cruelty to Animals and Providing a False Statement, 26 year old Matthew Spicer of Oxford was also arrested for Cruelty to Animals.  The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are expected.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 31 year old Sean Wingerter of Deposit for Driving While Intoxicated following the results of a traffic stop on State Highway 17 in the Town of Hancock. Wingerter was pulled over for moving from lane unsafely, and operating with an obstructed rear license plate, he was released on tickets returnable to the Town of Hancock Court at a later date.

Governor Cuomo announced an emergency executive action to ban the sale of flavored electronic cigarettes in New York State.  DOH Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker will hold an emergency meeting with the Public Health and Health Planning Council this week to ban flavored e-cigarettes. The Governor directed State Police and DOH to immediately partner to ramp up enforcement efforts against retailers who sell to underage youth, with the possibility of criminal penalties.  The Governor will advance legislation to ban deceptive marketing of e-cigarettes to teens and children.

Broome County will receive over $3.1 million in state matching funds through the County-Wide Shared Services Initiative. Broome County achieved the savings in 2018 through the implementation of shared services projects, when they partnered with the Capital District BOCES Pharmacy Purchasing Coalition; they also saved over $9,700 from sharing caseworkers between school districts.
