Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is being sued by former aide Brittany Commisso, who claims that Cuomo sexually harassed her while he was still in office. Commisso filed the case against the ex-governor in state Supreme Court in Albany on Wednesday, she was 1 of 11 women who accused Cuomo of sexual misconduct, leading to his resignation in 2021, he has denied the allegations.

Bachorik was charged with 2nd & 3rd degree Assault, Menacing, 8 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child plus Criminal Mischief, he was placed in pre-arraignment hold for arraignment in Otsego County Central Arraignment.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 32 year old Katherine Naber of Richfield Springs, following a Domestic Dispute in the Town of Otsego. Naber was charged with 1st & 2nd Degree Criminal Contempt & Resisting Arrest, after Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the Town of Otsego and determined that Naber had violated a valid order of protection, she resisted arrest by attempting to fight and flee from Deputies on scene, she was taken into custody and later held at the Otsego County Jail pending arraignment.

Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation requiring camps and youth sports programs to establish automated external defibrillator implementation plans and to have at least 1 person trained to properly use the AED at camps, games and practice. The Legislation was supported by Buffalo Bills Safety Damar Hamlin, who on January 2, 2023, suffered a cardiac arrest after making a tackle, CPR and automated external defibrillation were quickly administered before he was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.

The Otsego County Law Enforcement Torch Run was held Sunday in Cooperstown with the Flame of Hope that made its way around the state in support of Special Olympics New York. State Police Traffic Incident Management Unit issued a total of 38 tickets in Broome County during an “Operation Hard Hat” detail. Troopers monitored traffic on State Route 17 in the town of Sanford where road crews were doing construction work. 9 tickets were issued for speeding, 4 for using a cellphone while driving, 18 were seat belts violations & 9 other assorted tickets were issued last Thursday.

A contraband investigation led to multiple drug smuggling charges at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility this week. 36 year old Jamell Jones was charged with 2 Counts of Promoting Prison Contraband, 2 Counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence, plus Obstructing Governmental Administration. Jones became uncooperative, & was combative with investigators, Jones was placed in a Medical Housing Unit under Contraband Protocol to monitor his health and prevent a possible overdose from the Methamphetamines that were smuggled on his person. Jones was processed at the Broome County Correctional Facility and will answer for his charges at the Town of Dickinson Court on a future date.

32 year-old Courtni Baker of Sidney pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court today to charges relating to a February 15th accident, where Baker struck 14-year-old Anielle “AK” McEwan-Lomnicki as she was walking home from Sidney middle school. Delaware County Acting District Attorney Shawn Smith told WCDO news about the verdict:

Baker registered a .24 blood alcohol content, three times the legal limit at the time of her arrest, Smith said that Baker faces 4 to 12 years in prison at her sentencing on September 25th.

49-year-old Hasaan Coston of Binghamton was found guilty in Broome County Court on 3 felony drug possession charges related to two separate raids by members of Broome County’s Special Investigations Unit Task Force. Officers executed the 1st search warrant on July 29, 2021, and recovered cocaine, crack cocaine, $1200 cash and drug paraphernalia, at the 2nd search on August 4, 2022, in Endicott, officers seized more cocaine, crack cocaine and $1260 cash, Coston could face over 25 years in jail upon sentencing later this year.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies, State Police and the Village of Delhi Police Department, responded May 14th to a report of a Physical Domestic in Progress in the Town of Meredith. 35-year-old James Twito of Meredith, allegedly engaged another person in a physical domestic dispute where he is accused of obstructing the breathing of the victim, he was charged with Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, 3rd degree Assault & Criminal Mischief , Twito was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court where he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $5,000 cash or $10,000 in secured bond.

The New York Farm Bureau announced support today for Governor Hochul’s request to the federal government to expedite work visas for migrants who have been properly processed and who want to work on farms in New York State. There is a lengthy tradition of migrant workers on New York State farms, Farm Bureau officials stated that the State Department of Agriculture and Markets along with Cornell’s Agricultural Workforce Development program are working to rectify the situation, the latest action would just be a temporary one and Washington officials must act to come up with a permanent solution to all angles of the immigration issue.

The State Department of Health today issued updated advisories for the consumption of fish from waterbodies in the State. The most notable update this year is the release of a new Catskill Region advisory, which includes the Cannonsville & Pepacton reservoirs in Delaware County, The Advisory is for a “Sensitive population”, which includes people who may bear children and children under 15; the fish in question include rainbow, brook & brown trout. Otsego County Sheriff’s Office aarested 28 year old Joseph Spataro of Otego following a welfare check investigation in the Town of Oneonta. Spataro was chargeedd with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, DWI, Unlicensed Operator, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a mtoro vehicle, Spataro is accused of operating a motor vehicle while impaired and in possession of drugs, he was issued an appearance ticket for the Oneonta Town Court on a later date.

Sherman was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated , Speed not reasonable and prudent, Failure to Keep Right among other charges, Sherman will appear in Town of Morris Court on May 22, 2023 at 3:00pm.

Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation to ban the sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits at retail pet stores, aiming to end the puppy mill-to-pet store pipeline and stop abusive breeders. The legislation will take effect in 2024, following studies that showed that many of these animals have health issues resulting from poor breeding and can cost families thousands of dollars in veterinary care.

Sidney Police arrested 36 year old Brittany Marino of Gloversville on an arrest warrant Monday. This arrest stems from a 2021 joint investigation, between the Sidney Police Department and the Department of Homeland Security, into the possession of firearms by a person who is prohibited from possessing firearms. Marino is accused of purchasing several firearms when she lived in Sidney, & then giving them to a person who is prohibited from possessing them. Marino was charged with One count of Criminal sale of a firearm in the first degree: ten or more firearms, she was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court where she was released on her own recognizance to appear back in court at a later date.

Bassett Healthcare Network and Dr. Tommy Ibrahim have mutually agreed to an early contract extension after 2 years at the helm. Ibrahim was named Bassett Healthcare Network’s President and Chief Executive Officer on July 13, 2020, after a nationwide search. Dr. Ibrahim’s Contract was originally scheduled to expire in December 2024, his contract has been extended through the end of 2029.

State Police arrested 28 year old Tyler Burr of Oneonta after he refused to exit his residence for over 23-hours. Troopers went to a home on Emmons Hill Road in the town of Oneonta Saturday night to interview Burr, for his involvement in a theft from Price Chopper on June 20th, Burr aimed a bow and arrow at the troopers then shot in the direction of the troopers. Burr eventually attempted to flee from the residence Sunday evening and was taken into custody. Burr was charged with 4 counts of Menacing a Police Officer, 3 counts of Criminal Mischief, & 3rd degree Burglary, he was processed & transported to the Otsego County Jail to await arraignment. More charges are possible.

Former Prattsville Town Supervisor Kory O’Hara plead guilty to wire fraud in connection with a grant extended to Prattsville in the wake of Hurricane Irene. As Town Supervisor, O’Hara entered into various grant agreements, O’Hara admitted that he obtained false invoices from Moore’s Homes, purporting to reflect construction work performed on O’Hara’s Service Station, which Moore’s Homes did not perform. O’Hara faces up to 20 years in prison; plus post-imprisonment supervised release of up to 3 years; and a maximum fine of $250,000. He will also be required to pay $24,915 in restitution to the State of New York.

State Police arrested 21 year old Dylon Wall of Davenport for the Criminal Mischief, False Personation and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, after a trooper was dispatched to the Walmart in Oneonta after a complainant reported that Wall smashed her front windshield. After an investigation, Wall is accused of intentionally damaging her property, he was located at his residence, he was also found to have marijuana in his possession & he allegedly gave troopers a false name. Wall was arraigned in the town of Oneonta Court and is scheduled to reappear in court on September 20th; he was turned to State Police in Norwich from open warrants in Chenango County.

State Troopers arrested 4 people after a vehicle was stopped for traffic violations on County Route 41 in Afton. After an investigation, the driver, 25 year old Priyank Raj of New Haven, CT was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marihuana and several traffic violations. 3 passengers, 31 year old Michael Bueno of Cliffside Park, New Jersey 26 year old Watchaiapon Chiamsatchamongkho, of Massachusetts & 19 year old Jahennye Fortado of New York City were all arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, for allegedly possessing marijuana and MDMA. All 4 were arraigned in the town of Afton Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $2,500 cash or $7,000 bond, pending court action on August 27th, in the town of Afton Court.

State Police arrested 35 year old Walter Lewis of Sanford for DWI, Criminal Mischief, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and Harassment, after Troopers were dispatched to a domestic dispute in Sanford. Lewis is accused of aggressively grabbing a victim and causing bruising, while the victim was holding a child. The victim also told troopers he broke a tablet & took off in a vehicle. Troopers located Lewis on Sherman Creek Road, he was arraigned at the Broome County Central Arraignment where he was remanded to the Broome County Jail on bail.

The State Public Service Commission revoked its approval of the 2016 merger agreement between Charter Communications and Time Warner Cable, because Charter, doing business as Spectrum, has made it clear that it has no intention of providing the public benefits upon which the Commission’s earlier approval was conditioned. In addition, the Commission attorneys is filing an enforcement action today in State Supreme Court to seek additional penalties for Charter’s past failures and ongoing non-compliance. Charter/Spectrum failed to meet deadlines & attempted to skirt obligations to serve rural communities, they have been ordered to file within 60 days a plan with the Commission to ensure an orderly transition to a successor provider.

Governor Cuomo today announced the nation’s first strategy to eliminate hepatitis C, including the establishment of a Task Force that will advise the state as it implements its plan. The elimination effort aims to stop the spread of the virus by increasing access to medications that can cure hepatitis C and expanding programs to connect New Yorkers with prevention, screening and treatment services. Hepatitis C is a liver disease affecting more than 200,000 New Yorkers, deaths have exceeded HIV-related deaths, with injecting drug use as the most common risk factor, the opioid epidemic has fueled a rise in new hepatitis C cases.

State Police arrested 38 year old Alycia Martin of Sidney for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. Troopers on patrol spotted Martin driving on State Highway 7 without any headlights, after a traffic stop, Troopers determined that she was impaired & that her license was suspended. Martin was subsequently arrested and arraigned in the town of Bainbridge Court where she was released on her own recognizance. She is scheduled to reappear in court on August 28th.

State Police responded Wednesday night to a 2-vehicle collision on State Route 206, in the town of Bainbridge. A 2002 Mitsubishi operated by 18-year-old Maleek Smith of Staatsburg crossed into the opposite lane into the path of a Chevrolet SUV driven by 53-year-old Joseph Artuso of Syracuse. Smith was eventually air lifted to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, where he was pronounced deceased due to accident related trauma. Artuso and his two passengers were transported to Tri-Town Regional Hospital in Sidney, NY where were treated for minor injuries and released. The investigation is continuing.

State Police and local law enforcement will participate in the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign beginning today. Through Saturday, December 30th. State Police will also be conducting an enforcement period over New Year’s Eve, from Sunday, December 31st to Monday, January 1st. Police will set up DWI checkpoints and patrols, Troopers will be watching for distracted drivers, vehicle occupants who are not properly buckled up, and drivers violating the “Move Over Law,” & they will also conduct underage drinker enforcement details statewide.

Planning is already underway for the 50th anniversary celebration of the 1969 Woodstock concert, and the Regional Economic Development Council awards includes $690,000 for the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, located on the site of the original Woodstock Music and Art Fair. The three-day concert held in August 1969 drew more than 400,000 rock music fans to Max Yasgur’s farm in the town of Bethel. Bethel Woods will use the state funding for the 2019 anniversary event, they are also planning the event as a 3-day festival.

Governor Cuomo today unveiled the 3rd proposal of the 2018 State of the State: to invest $100 million to launch the 3rd round of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative which is aimed at transforming communities with a variety of economic development projects. The downtown areas will be selected by the state’s Regional Economic Development Councils. Locally, in the 1st round, the City of Oneonta won a $10 million dollar award through the Mohawk Valley Regional Development Council; they are currently in the process of the downtown upgrades funded through that award.


Downsville Central School District officials reported that 6 students suffered minor injuries & were taken to area hospital as a precautionary measure, after a crash Thursday morning. Investigators believe that a truck lost control while making a turn on Route 30 in the town of Hancock, and hit a district school bus carrying 31 students. The investigation is being conducted by the Delaware County Sheriff’s department.

A funeral service will be held for Congressman Maurice Hinchey in Saugerties this morning, at 10:00 AM. Services will be held at the St. John the Evangelist Church on State Route 212 in Saugerties. State Police arrested 44 year old Joseph Bassett of the town of Maryland for Unlawful Imprisonment, Assault and Menacing, after troopers responded to a dispute on County Route 34 in the town of Westford. Bassett is accused of holding down a woman & punching her several times in the face; Bassett was arraigned in the town of Westford Court and was remanded to the Otsego County Jail in lieu of $500 cash bail or $1,000 property bond. An order of protection was issued.

Attorney General Schneiderman urged all New Yorkers to take immediate steps to protect their personal information online, in the wake of Yahoo’s recent disclosure that a third party had breached its servers and accessed the personal data of over 1 billion users. The data compromised includes email addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, hashed passwords (using MD5) and, in some cases, encrypted or unencrypted security questions and answers. The investigation indicates that the stolen information did not include passwords in clear text, payment card data, or bank account information. The Attorney General urges anyone with a Yahoo account to change their passwords and security questions — not only with Yahoo accounts, but for any other accounts which you use the same or similar information.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli reminded New Yorkers that contributions to a New York State 529 College Savings Program account are tax deductible. Contributions made by December 31st can provide up to $10,000 in state tax deductions on 2016 income tax filings. New Yorkers can open an account and if they already have one can contribute and deduct up to $5,000 from their New York State taxable income. Married couples filing jointly can deduct up to $10,000 each year.

A Sidney native has entered into the world of publishing, when he published his first science fiction novel earlier this month through Amazon.com. Delhi University police announced that they are searching for 21 year old Steven Sutliff, who told his roommates on Saturday afternoon that he was heading to Oneonta, and would return on Monday. Sutliff was reported missing on Tuesday evening. Sutliff is described as a 5’9″ white male, weighing about 150 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Local organizers today announced an inaugural 5K run/walk through the City of Norwich to support the St. Baldrick’s Foundation in their mission of funding childhood cancer research. The 5K run/walk will be held tomorrow with the start and end at East Park, in the City of Norwich at 9 am.

Approximately $150,000 has been raised locally to support childhood cancer research. All of the money raised for any of these events goes to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to fund childhood cancer research.

State Troopers in Sidney arrested 52 year old Mark Meyers of Guilford, for fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, felony driving while intoxicated with a BAC of .15%, plus numerous  vehicle and traffic law charges.  The arrest followed a traffic stop on State Route 8 that concluded on High Bridge Road in Guilford. Meyers was arraigned in the town of Guilford court and remanded to the Chenango county jail on $8,000 bail.

State Police arrested 33-year-old Eleanor Black of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for 20 felonies.  Black was charged with 3rd degree Grand Larceny, 7 counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, 6 counts of Falsifying Business Records, and 6 counts of Offering a False Instrument for Filing.  The charges followed a yearlong investigation of crimes in the Schoharie Valley Region.  Black was arraigned and will return to Town of Esperance Court at a later date.

U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer and former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly will work together to ensure that funding will continue for newborns to be tested for over 40 fatal diseases. The Newborn Screening Saves Lives Reauthorization Act of 2013 assures federal funding so newborns can receive a blood test for fatal diseases that, if caught early, can be diagnosed and treated early. If the bill is not reauthorized by Sept. 30 the federal funding for newborn screenings could end. Kelly’s son Hunter died in 2005 from a fatal genetic disease that, if caught early, can be treated.

The Emerald Ash Borer is spreading more quickly than expected, according to Cornell Cooperative Extension in Chenango County.  The Emerald Ash Borer will only affect Ash trees, which make up about 10 percent of trees in the region. Officials say the only way to protect the trees is to inject the tree with insecticide. Any trees without the insecticide will begin to weaken and die over the next decade. With the threat of another lawsuit over the hydrofracking issue, Governor Cuomo continues to state that he is waiting for the state health department to finish their research on any possible health issue relating to the gas drilling process. State Senator Tom Libous of Binghamton said that he hopes that the state makes its decision in the next 3 to 6 months:

Libous has supported the proposal to bring hydrofracking into the Marcellus shale that lies below much of the southern tier.  A ban on gas drilling has been in effect for 5 years.

The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 41-year-old Wendy Thomas of Oxford, following the report of a 2-vehicle accident Monday afternoon.  The accident occurred at around 2:45 PM on County road 32.  The investigation revealed that Sean Wahlberg was driving a pick up truck, when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Wendy Thomas, who had veered into the opposing lane of traffic, the crash forced Wahlberg off of the road.  Thomas was charged with unlawful possession of marihuana & Failure to keep right.  She will appear in court at a later date.

State Police at Oneonta arrested 23-year-old James Robinson-Glass of Gloversville for Driving While Intoxicated with a reportable BAC result of .13%. The arrest followed the report of an accident on I-88; Robinson-Glass was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Worcester Court today.  No injuries were report in the crash.

State police are participating in the National Child Passenger Safety Week through this Saturday, September 21st.  Police will enforce seat belt laws through routine patrol and by checkpoints. State law mandates that children be required to use a child safety seat up to the age of eight years old.  Statistics show that the chance of a fatality on a motor vehicle crash greatly increases if safety belts or child safety seats are not used, or are used incorrectly.
