16 year old Krystal Lee of East Meredith is working her way up through the Country Music Ranks, she will be traveling to Dollywood in Tennessee next month for the Josie Music Awards, after her video was nominated from more than 23,000 entrants for her original song “No More Sometimes”, she visited WCDO this morning where she talked about upcoming local performances before her trip to Tennessee:

Firefighters responded to a blaze Friday morning at 427 Ouaquaga Road in the town of Colesville.  All occupants escaped safely, & no injuries were reported. Firefighters from Harpursville, West Colesville, Sanitaria Springs, Five Mile Point, West Windsor, Windsor and Ouaquaga responded.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The FCC today authorized nearly $16.2 million in federal funding through the FCC’s Connect America Fund, over the next decade to expand broadband to 8,088 unserved rural New York homes and businesses, the second round of matching funds being provided in a partnership with the state’s New NY Broadband Program.  Providers will begin receiving funding this month.   Locally, DTC Cable will receive $2,103,935 over the next decade to expand broadband to 712 rural homes and businesses at downstream speeds of at least 100 Mbps and upstream speeds of 20 Mbps

Delaware County sheriff’s deputies arrested 36 year old Russell Fisher & 58 Year old Joseph Fisher of Davenport on various weapons charges after they obtained & executed a search warrant.  Deputies were assisted at the scene by State Police explosives technicians,   Deputies seized fireworks and components commonly used in the manufacture of explosive devices.  Russell Fisher was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on Cash bail, Joseph Fisher was charged with the criminal possession of a weapon and unlawfully dealing with fireworks

Governor Cuomo signed legislation to enact sweeping new workplace harassment protections.  The legislation extends the statute of limitations for employment sexual harassment claims filed from 1 year to 3 years, expands the coverage of the Human Rights Law to all employers in the state; Updates the power of the Attorney General to enforce the Human Rights Law; and Requires a review of sexual harassment policies every 4 years.

State Police arrested 31 year old Edward Burnett of Utica for Driving While Ability Impaired with child 15 or under as passenger and Vehicular Assault.  Burnett is accused of striking and seriously injuring a pedestrian on State Route 8 in the town of Columbus.   Troopers working a detail at a Unadilla Motocross event on State Route 8, located a 20-year-old male from South Carolina unconscious, an off-duty Sidney Police Officer was on scene tending to the victim when troopers & then paramedics arrived.  The pedestrian was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Utica & was listed in critical condition.  Burnett was arraigned in the town of Columbus court & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.

Governor Cuomo signed 3 pieces of legislation expanding protections for victims of domestic violence. These measures broaden the definition of the crime of domestic violence to include forms of economic abuse such as identity theft, grand larceny and coercion; give victims the choice to vote by mail-in ballot, even if they remain within the county where they are registered to vote; and allow victims to report abuse to any law enforcement agency in New York State, regardless of where the violence originally took place.

A portion of New York State Route 205 through the Hamlet of Hartwick will be named in honor of United States Marine Corps Sergeant John Kempe Winslow under legislation signed into law.  The bill sponsored by Senator Jim Seward and Assemblyman John Salka pays tribute to the decorated Marine who was killed in action during the Vietnam War in 1969.  A formal sign installation will be scheduled by the State Department of Transportation at a later date.

The City of Oneonta announced that there will be a special meeting of the Common Council today at City Hall at 6:00pm; the purpose of the meeting will be the approval of warrants.
