State Police are investigating a 1 vehicle crash on State Route 7 near Harpursville, where the car struck a tree.  A passenger was killed and the name of the driver or the driver’s status has not yet been released.

Delaware County Sheriff’s department announced that indictments were handed down by a Grand jury against 2 area women on drug charges.  43-year-old Crystal Smith of Endicott and 31-year-old Anna Kellam of Hancock were charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance independently of each other, in Hancock.  Kellam was already being held in the Delaware County Jail on an unrelated charge, she is accused of selling prescription drugs illegally in Hancock on 3 occasions. Endicott Police arrested Smith last week on a warrant for allegedly selling Suboxone in Hancock on two occasions.  Kellam is being held on $15,000 bail, Smith was being held in the Delaware County Jail without bail.

The Chenango County Planning board 239 subcommittee approved a measure on the town of Guilford’s Renewable energy law this morning, Town of Guilford Supervisor & County Planning Board member George Senek comments:

Senek said that the next Guilford town board meeting will begin at 7:00 PM Wednesday at the town hall, where the board will review the SEQR environmental Application; they may act on it, and possibly act on the Renewable Energy Law.  The Energy law proposal follows a proposal by Calpine to erect up to 30 wind turbines in the town of Guilford.  A Group known as the Concerned Citizens of Guilford opposes the plan and is questioning the legality of the process the town is using with its renewable energy law.

The State Department of Agriculture & Markets announced the presence of Listeria in raw milk collected from the Muddy River Dairy of Otego.  Anyone who purchased raw milk from Muddy River Dairy should dispose of it & contact the farm, more information is available at agriculture.ny.gov.

The City of Oneonta announced that their contractor will begin a water main tie in at East End Ave starting at 7:00 AM Wednesday.  Affected streets include Main Street from Forest Ave to the east end of the line, East End Ave from Main Street to Chester Street, & Reynolds Street from Main to Chester.   The outages are expected to last a few hours. The intersection of Main Street and East End Ave will be closed to traffic; 1 lane will be maintained on Main Street itself. City Police in Norwich are investigating the vandalism of a syringe drop box near the Eaton Center in downtown Norwich.  Police began the investigation following a post of the broken dropbox with needles on the ground, on social media Monday.  So far, no arrests have been announced.

State Police announced that the pedestrian struck by a car on Friday evening near the Unadilla Valley Sports Center has died.  20 year old Jonathan Mayzak of South Carolina succumbed to his injuries on Sunday afternoon at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica.  An autopsy will be performed at the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office in the near future.  The investigation is continuing with the State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and The Chenango County District Attorney’s Office will be consulted at the conclusion of the investigation as to whether additional charges are warranted against the driver, 31 year old Edward Burnett of Utica.

Governor Cuomo signed legislation which prohibits employment discrimination based on religious attire, clothing or facial hair. The new law amends the State Human Rights Law to make clear that employers cannot refuse to hire, attain, promote, or take other discriminatory action against an individual for wearing attire or facial hair in accordance with tenets of their religion.   The legislation also requires employers to reasonably accommodate an employee’s religious practices.

The American Red Cross is holding 2 Blood drives in Sidney & Oneonta today, to address the current blood shortage.  The Sidney blood drive will be from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the Sidney Elks Lodge, 104 River Street the Oneonta Blood drive is from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Oneonta Elks Club, 84 Chestnut Street.  Appointments can be made through Amazon’s Alexa, by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, or calling 1-800-RED CROSS.
