Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29 year old Elizabeth Gajdzis of New Berlin for 2nd degree Burglary, 3rd & 4th degree Grand Larceny, Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. On March 30th, The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Division received a complaint of a stolen vehicle from a residence in the Town of New Berlin. Gajdzis is accused of stealing the vehicle, On April 1, she contacted a member of the Detectives Division regarding a separate matter and agreed to meet the Detective, she was arrested, was processed, arraigned & was remanded back to the correctional on cash bail and is scheduled to reappear in the Town of New Berlin Court at a later date.

Hartwick College in Oneonta launched their Together, We Soar campaign last November, with the goal of raising $50 Million dollars for a variety of reason, James Kellerhouse, Vice President for Institutional Advancement & External Relations, told WCDO News about their efforts:

Kellerhouse said that they have already raised about $30 million dollars, and that enrollments increased this year by about 10%, with an even higher percentage of new students from the local counties, more information is available at hartwick.edu/giving/together-we-soar.

State Police issued more than 21,500 tickets during this year’s ‘Operation Hang Up’ traffic enforcement period, from April 1 to April 8th. Police targeted drivers using electronic devices while behind the wheel, as statistics nationwide show that 3,308 people were killed in crashes caused by distracted driving in 2022. During the April 2023 Operation Hang Up campaign, State Police in Troop C issued 1,529 tickets.

Oneonta Police Department responded last night to investigate a reported gunshot wound victim at Fox Hospital’s emergency room. Officers learned that a 51-year-old male victim was transported by a 3rd party in a private vehicle, which left the scene prior to the arrival of police. The victim stated that he was on Chestnut Street when he was injured by a bullet. Police searched the location & no evidence was found. Hospital Security Staff were able to provide surveillance video of the vehicle and individual dropping the victim off at the hospital. An Otsego County Deputy located the vehicle on I-88 and initiate a traffic stop. 3 people were in the vehicle, Police discovered that the incident may have occurred on River Street between Mitchell and Wilcox, but no evidence was located, Anyone with any information should contact Oneonta Police at (607) 432-1111, or at local.nixle.com/tip/city-of-oneonta.

The Binghamton Police Department arrested a 17-year-old from Johnson City for leaving the scene of a pedestrian hit-and-run Tuesday afternoon. Binghamton Police responded at Court and Water streets for a report of a person who was crossing the road being struck by a vehicle, the victim was a 45 year old man from Binghamton, He was transported to an area hospital w& was in critical condition. Detectives found the suspect and their vehicle later, he was arrested & was released on an appearance ticket.

40 year old Jesse Barnum of Endicott was arrested in Pennsylvania on multiple felony charges for failing to register under the Sex Offender Registration Act. Barnum was found hiding under a blanket in the rear of a van, he was arrested and extradited to appear in Broome County and Town of Union courts. On Friday, April 1, 2024, members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Warrants Division and the United States Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force traveled to Scranton area, Barnum was wanted 2 separate counts of Failure to Register Under the Sex Offender Registration Act, plus Bail Jumping.

Delaware County District Attorney’s office announced that 60 year old Eva Witteman of Binghamton pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and was sentenced to 5 years of felony probation supervision in Delaware County Court. On February 21, 2023, a Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputy, conducted a welfare check of a vehicle which appeared to be broke down on State Highway 17 in Hancock, Witteman had a suspended license, & was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Vehicle, & she possessed 12 grams of methamphetamine. Witteman pleaded guilty to the drug charge, she was to 5 years of felony probation supervision. if she violates probation, she could be re-sentenced to 2.5 years in state prison.
