Delaware Valley Humane Society announced that they raised over $126,000 through their annual Staffworks Save a Life Campaign, Director Erin Insinga told WCDO news what the shelter will use the money for this year:

The Staffworks campaign ran in December where they match donations given by the public to the Humane Society, the previous 2 years of the campaign, they raised over $93,000 & $71,000 for upgrades & operational expenses.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched Tuesday to a report of a hit and run motor vehicle accident on State Highway 10 in the Town of Delhi. 30-year old Michael Laureanti of Delhi, rear ended another vehicle and fled from the crash scene, he was located & further investigation revealed that Laureanti was operating the vehicle at the time of the accident while his driver’s license was suspended due to a failure to pay child support. Laureanti was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of a property damage motor vehicle accident, he was released on traffic tickets returnable to the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

The Robert Mason Recreation Center Ice Skating Rink in Norwich will be opening, hours will be from 4:00 to 9:00 PM Monday through Friday, and 12:00 Noon to 9:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday. Ice skating and skate rentals are free of charge.

For the first time since 2019, property tax levy growth for school districts will be capped at 2%, up from 1.23% last year, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. The tax cap limits annual tax levy increases to the lesser of the rate of inflation or 2%. School districts may override the cap with 60% voter approval of their budget. The 2% levy limit affects the tax cap calculations for 676 school districts and 10 cities with fiscal years starting July 1, 2022,

As the rise of the Omicron variant continues to threaten the safety of our nation’s health care workforce, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is calling on the Biden administration to continue and make permanent the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) emergency COVID-19 protections for health care workers, after OSHA let the temporary requirements to lapse:

Gillibrand said that the safety measures must be re-instated as soon as possible, as more than 120,000 people are hospitalized with COVID-19 nationwide, further straining overworked health care workers and hospitals facing severe staffing shortages.

The Chenango County District Attorney’s Office reported that Cody Coleman of Smithville Flats, appeared in Chenango County Court on December 20th to accept that plea bargain, for the murder of his 16 year old Girlfriend Amelia Wakefield in May of 2019. The case was scheduled to go to trial in May of 2020, but was delayed by the COVID 19 pandemic. Chenango County District Attorney’s office offered a plea deal, the charge was lessened from murder to manslaughter, Coleman is scheduled to be sentenced on February 28th in Chenango County Court.
