Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested a current Delaware County Inmate. Last Friday, Investigators of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office received information that 48-year-old Deanna Besser of Brooklyn was a fugitive from the State of Pennsylvania, with outstanding warrants for failure to appear on a total of 16 separate charges not related to the Delaware County charges. At the conclusion of their investigation, Sheriff’s Investigators arrested Besser on a Fugitive from Justice complaint. Besser was later arraigned at the Delaware County CAP court and was remanded back to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending extradition back to the State of Pennsylvania.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced recommendations by the State Board for Historic Preservation to add 15 properties to the State and National Registers of Historic Places. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested Sabrina Johnson of Oswego County for 2nd degree Burglary, Attempted Grand Larceny, Criminal Mischief & Conspiracy, last November, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Division received a Burglary complaint in New Berlin, the investigation found that Johnson and a co-defendant caused damage while burglarizing a residence, stole items from within the residence, and attempted to steal a car. Johnson was located at the Town of New Berlin Court and was taken into custody without incident, she was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on cash bail, she will return to Town of New Berlin Court at a later date.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 57 year old William MacDowall of Binghamton for Hindering Prosecution and Obstructing Governmental Administration, after hindering police from entering his residence to arrest his son, 25 year old Justin MacDowall, on an active felony bench warrant for Violation of Probation and an active arrest warrant for Strangulation. Alan Holmes of Binghamton was sentenced as a 2nd time felony offender to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Broome County Court. On June 7, 2021, Holmes was found in possession of approximately 50 grams of fentanyl following a traffic stop in Johnson City stemming from suspected drug activity in Endwell. Holmes admitted to possession with the intent to sell, he was sentenced to 6.5 years in State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision.

Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar announced this afternoon the arrests of 3 inmates for having contraband in their housing pods at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility this week. Investigators recovered crack cocaine, synthetic cannabis, & suboxone strips, they arrested 36 year old Dreyshawn McDonald for Criminal Possession Controlled Substance & Promoting Prison Contraband, 41 year old Ryan Carney of Endicott for Promoting Prison Contraband & 35 year old Paul reed of Endicott for Promoting Prison Contraband. This sweep was the latest in a series of investigations into narcotics, drug and contraband smuggling at the Correctional Facility, which have led to 9 arrests and dozens of charges since the beginning of the year.

The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that 37 year old Farrah Singleton of the Bronx, pleaded guilty in Broome County Court today to 3rd degree Burglary. Singleton admitted that he unlawfully a residence at 226 Court Street in Binghamton and stole property on September 1st 2021, he was arrested a week later by Binghamton Police, he will serve 2 1/2 to 5 years in prison when sentenced on May 4.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34 year old Ashley Williams of Laurens on 2 counts of Torturing or Injuring Animals/Failure to Provide Sustenance. ]]>The Village of Sidney Police Department responded yesterday afternoon at about 2:50 PM, to the report of a unconscious female lying in the middle of Sunset Avenue. Police were advised that the female had been struck by a vehicle, 14 year old Anielle McEwan-Lomnicki was transported to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City & was transferred to SUNY Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse where she remains in stable but critical condition with bleeding & pressure on the brain, an upper spine fracture & fractured ribs according to family, The driver, 31 year old Courtni Baker of Sidney left the scene and returned a short time later, she was charged with Aggravated DWI, with a BAC of .18 or higher, plus DWI, Leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, Reckless Driving, Vehicular Assault & Escape for allegedly attempting to leave the Police Station, along with several other lesser charges. Baker was arraigned in the Town of Delhi court where she was remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail. The investigation is ongoing which could result in more charges being filed.

The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that 3 people died and another was hospitalized after they were hit by a car in Newark Valley Wednesday afternoon. According to the Sheriff’s Office, an 18-year-old man was driving south on State Route 38 around 11:20 am Wednesday and hit 4 pedestrians walking on the shoulder. 66 year old John Stephens, 25 year old Kurtis Acker & 52 year old Doreen Wood were killed, a 27-year-old woman was flown to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse in critical condition. All 4 pedestrians were from Newark Valley.

19 year old Payton Gendron of Conklin was sentenced to life in prison without parole yesterday, for the mass shooting of 10 people in May of 2022 at a Tops grocery store in Buffalo. State Police arrested 44 year old Rodney Oakley of Plymouth, for Scheming to Defraud, 5 counts of 4th degree Grand Larceny & 8 counts of Petty Larceny. The Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, is asking for those who attended the original Woodstock Music & Arts festival at that site in 1969, to come forward & share their story. 21 year old Brandon Clark of Cicero was released from a Utica Area Hospital & has officially been charged with 2nd degree murder, for the death of 17 year old Bianca Devins of Utica last weekend. Governor Cuomo told reporters in Albany today that he doesn’t believe it’s feasible for lawmakers to legalize recreational marijuana this year. Cuomo said that that there is insufficient support in the state Senate, because there are disagreements about the regulatory details and whether the bill should include provisions expunging past low-level pot convictions.

Governor Cuomo today announced Smart Street Lighting NY, a new statewide program that calls for at least 500,000 street lights throughout the state to be replaced with energy-saving LED technology by 2025. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies and Investigators responded to the Downsville Central School after a reported threat of possible school violence Friday. Deputies were advised of the threat by School officials after they learned of a social media post Thursday night by a parent, administrators and Deputies immediately identified a 17 year old student as the source of a verbal threat made during school on Thursday. Investigators believe that the student made an inappropriate comment during school on Thursday; there was no credible threat or intention by the student to engage in any school violence.

A Broome County Grand Jury filed charges against 36 year old James Giacalone of Glen Aubrey Friday, after he allegedly tried to run over State Troopers last month with his car, the trooper shot and wounded Giacalone, who was indicted Friday for attempted first-degree murder, attempted aggravated assault upon a police officer and second-degree assault. He is expected to be arraigned in Broome County Court shortly; he could face 25 years to life in prison.

State Police arrested 22-year-old Tristen Caballer from Worcester for 2nd degree Burglary. On February 9th, a trooper responded to a burglary in the town of Worcester. The Otsego County Deputies had attempted to serve an arrest warrant on Caballer who then fled on foot. Caballer allegedly entered an enclosed porch to a residence, without permission, & then stole clothing and shoes and eventually returned to home, where He was arrested without incident. Caballer was arraigned in the Worcester Town Court and was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $5000 cash bail or $10,000 property bond.

Governor Cuomo signed legislation adding electronic cigarettes to the Clean Indoor Air Act, which bans their use everywhere that smoking tobacco products are prohibited. The bill would reduce the exposure to potentially dangerous chemicals for e-cigarette users and those around them. Under current law, only smoking substances containing tobacco, including cigars, cigarettes or pipes, are restricted in public places.

The investigation is continuing into the fire of a boxcar in Milford Tuesday afternoon. The fire broke out in Tuesday afternoon in a vintage boxcar on the Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley track near the Milford depot. Several Area Fire companies responded to the fire that was battled into Tuesday Evening. Investigators labeled the fire as suspicious, no arrests have been announced.
