New York State is honoring veterans with a statewide Free Fishing Day today, November 11, it will be the final Free Fishing Day of the year. All regular fishing regulations will still apply today.

In honor of Veteran’s Day, the State Department of Health announced that they are working to correct disparities in services available to Veterans, after a report found 37% of veterans report at least one disability, compared to 26% of non-veterans, Veterans are more likely to report they engage in risky behaviors, including smoking, and are more likely to report diagnoses of other health conditions, including cardiovascular disease, COPD, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and arthritis than non-veterans in the same age group.
