State Police announced today that a Davenport man who was reported missing since December 26th, has been found safe. Troopers searched for 78 year old Theodore Sikora of Davenport daily after receiving a report to check on his welfare. Troopers searched his home and the area surrounding it, local stores, hospitals and with relatives and friends, they thanked to public for the tips they received during the investigation.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34 year old Bradley Law of Harpursville in connection with a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident involving a pickup truck fatally striking Brennan Loveless on a bicycle on State Route 7 in the Town of Colesville on Sunday at 5:30pm. Law was charged with Criminally Negligent homicide & leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident, he was taken to Broome County Central Processing last night & was remanded to the Broome County Jail Without Bail. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 37 year old Nicholas Visser of Port Crane for 3rd degree Burglary, 3rd degree Grand Larceny & Conspiracy, following an investigation of a reported Burglary in the Town of Greene. Visser & 2 unknown male suspects allegedly entered a building on private property & stole nearly $40,000 in property, most of the stolen property was recovered at Visser’s property in the Town of Port Crane. Visser was processed and released on an appearance ticket. Visser is to appear in the Town of Greene Court at a later date. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted with the incident by the Broome County Sheriff’s Office.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29 year old Ryan Chesebro of Edmeston following a traffic stop on December 26th in the Town of Burlington. Chesebro was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle for allegedly operating a motor vehicle on a public highway with a suspended license, he was issued appearance tickets for Burlington Town Court at a later date.

Governor Kathy Hochul Signed a bill Saturday that legalized natural organic reduction, also known as human composting. New York becomes the 6th state to give New Yorkers access to an alternative, green method of burial deemed environmentally friendly. The bill states that the remains must be delivered to a cemetery corporation certified as an organic reduction facility, suitably contained and ventilated, the deceased is placed into a reusable, semi-open vessel containing suitable bedding such as wood chips, alfalfa or straw, which is deemed ideal for microbes to work. At the end of the process, a heaped cubic yard of soil, equivalent to 36 bags of soil is produced, which can be used as fertilizer.

State Police & Sidney Police conducted a search warrant of a residence in the Village of Sidney, Police to recovered stolen property from Burglaries in Chenango and Otsego counties. An 18 year old male was charged with 2 counts of felony Burglary, attempted Burglary and Criminal Mischief; He was arraigned and was returned to the Delaware County Jail on unrelated alleged charges. Troopers also arrested 39 year old Jason Blass of Oneonta for attempted Burglary; he was arraigned & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. The application for the Excelsior Scholarship opened on Wednesday, where SUNY students whose families make up to $125,000, can apply for tuition-free college. Students must be New York State residents, plan to attend a SUNY or CUNY 2 or 4-year college, take 30 credits per year, and graduate on time with an Associate’s Degree in 2 years or a Bachelor’s Degree in 4 years. Recipients must also plan to live in New York State equal to the length of time they received the award. Governor Cuomo today commended the State Senate & Assembly for passing the bill calling for the minimum age of marriage to be raised from 14 to 17. State Police were alerted to an alleged threat on Facebook that 2 students at Harpursville High School were going to “shoot up the school”. The alleged perpetrators were 2 subjects that came into the State Police barracks in Kirkwood to report what was posted. State Police and Harpursville School District administrators determined that there was no credible threat and that the posting was done by a third party. State Police arrested a 15-year-old student and they were charged with making a terroristic threat. The student was released to the custody of their parent and will appear in Family Court at a later date.

Former State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos & His son Adam have pleaded not guilty in a federal court for corruption charges. A federal indictment accuses Skelos & his son of conspiracy and extortion, they were arraigned Monday in a federal court room in Manhattan, Adam Skelos is accused of having a no-show job with a business that lobbied Dean Skelos on legislative matters, with the younger Skelos receiving about $300,000. Dean skeos resigned as leader of the state senate, but is still holding on to his senate seat representing his Long Island district.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 2 vehciel accident at about 8:50 this monring between a minivan & a Harpursville School bus on Smith Hill Road in the town of Chenango. 17 year old Katarina Stockton of Conklin lost control of her minivan on a curve and hit the Harpursville school bus head on. Cindy Wilcox of Harpursville was operating the school bus, with 12 students on board, she steered the bus into a ditch to try to avoid the collision. Wilcox was transported to Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton with neck & back pain, Stockton suffered minor injuries and was taken to Wilson Hospital, none of the students were injured. Stockton was ticketed for failure to reduce speed under wet conditions & driving left of pavement markings, she is due to appear in the Town of Chenango Court at a later date.

The state DEC Announced that local governments and non-profit organizations in the Catskill region received $400,000 in Catskill Smart Growth Implementation grants. Following last December’s Metro-North derailment in the Bronx that killed four passengers, US senator Charles Schumer introduced legislation to put into law, the recommendations of a panel that focused on the railroad’s culture of safety, mandating inward and outward facing cameras, increased track inspections and fines for safety violations.
