State Police arrested 29 year old Anthony Masi of Sidney, for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Forged Instrument, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle on James F. Lettis Highway, Masi failed to comply. Masi was spotted by troopers operating at a high rate of speed in the village of Unadilla. Masi’s vehicle lost a front tire and his vehicle became disabled on Willow Street in the village of Sidney. Masi refused to comply with trooper’s commands and resisted arrest. He was ultimately taken into custody with the assistance of a New York State Police K9. Masi was transported to AO Fox Memorial Hospital. Masi was issued appearance tickets to the town of Oneonta court on April 6th, he was issued an appearance ticket for the misdemeanor of Resisting Arrest to the village of Sidney court on April 22nd. After processing, Masi was released to a sober third party.

State Police arrested 34 year old Jason Manderville of Oneonta for Menacing & Petty Larceny, after Troopers were dispatched to a domestic dispute on Oneida Street in the town of Oneonta. Manderville allegedly threatened a victim with a chainsaw, he was located in a wooded area behind his residence and arrested, & he was processed and virtually arraigned & was released on his own recognizance and order to appear in the town on Oneonta court on April 6, 2021. The victim was issued a stay away order of protection. Later on the same day State Police arrested Manderville for Arson and Criminal Contempt, after Troopers, Oneonta Fire Department and Oneonta EMS were dispatched to a house fire where troopers arrested Manderville a few hours earlier. Troopers located Manderville in a wooded area near State Highway 205 and he was taken into custody. Manderville was arraigned on the new charges & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Schenevus man following a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Davenport early Thursday morning. Deputies responded to County Highway 12, they located the driver, 54 year-old Dennis Thompson of Schenevus, who was walking away from the accident scene. Investigation revealed that Thompson was intoxicated at the time of the accident and lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree. Thompson was subsequently arrested and charged with the misdemeanor offenses of aggravated driving while intoxicated with BAC of .18% or more and common-law driving while intoxicated, as well as the offenses of moving from lane unsafely and speed not reasonable and prudent. Thompson was issued traffic summonses and was released pending his appearance and arraignment in the Town of Davenport Court on a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office announced that a vehicle and traffic violation on State Highway 17 in the Town of Deposit on Wednesday morning resulted in the arrest of Pennsylvania man. Deputies observed a vehicle being operated with an inoperable tail light. Deputies stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 25-year-old Nicholas Dunlap of Starlight, Pennsylvania. A routine driver’s license inquiry revealed that Dunlap’s New York State driving privileges were suspended in 2019 for an insurance lapse. Dunlap was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, and insufficient tail lamps. Dunlap’s vehicle was towed from the highway and he was released after being directed to appear in the Town of Deposit Court on a later date to answer the charges.

Governor Cuomo, & state leaders announced an agreement on legislation to legalize adult-use cannabis. The bill would establish the Office of Cannabis Management to implement a regulatory framework that would cover medical, adult-use and cannabinoid hemp. The bill would also expand New York State’s existing medical marijuana and cannabinoid hemp programs. The legislation provides licensing for marijuana producers, distributors, retailers, and other actors in the cannabis market, The legislation has the potential to create Tax collections of $350 million annually, & itr is expected to create 30,000 to 60,000 new jobs.

35 year old Kenneth Fink of New Berlin man was arrested Friday on an active Arrest Warrant issued by the Chenango County Court following a Sealed indictment. The Chenango County District Attorney’s Office presented an Arson case to the Chenango County Grand Jury, Fink was indicted for 3rd degree Arson, Fink was arraigned in the Chenango County Court and released until a later Court date. Sidney Police Department responded to a larceny complaint last Monday at a local business. 2 people who were caught on security video committing the crime, Sidney Police Department arrested 30 year old Terence Barrows of Solvay & 46 year old Kimberly Barrows of Illinois, on a variety of charges, Terence Barrows was released on an appearance ticket to appear in Village of Sidney Court at a later date. Kimberly Barrows was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court and remanded to the Delaware County jail to await extradition to Illinois.

State Police arrested 62 year old Delos Decker of Bainbridge for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Reckless Endangerment & Criminal Mischief, Decker was involved in a road rage incident on March 19th, He’s accused of shooting at a vehicle, causing damage to the other vehicle’s rear window to shatter then leaving the scene. A tip led investigators to Decker. After an investigation, Decker was arrested by members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Decker was arraigned virtually and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $15,000 bond.

57 year old Jeffrey Melagrano of Scarsdale has been arrested by State Police in Otsego County for Driving While Intoxicated. Melagrano allegedly called 911 to make a report Thursday night regarding an altercation in the town of Milford, responding Troopers accuse him of being intoxicated when they arrived. Melagrano had a BAC of .18 he was arraigned in Town of Hartwick court & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $2,000 cash bail or $4,000 bond.

State Police arrested 49 year old Martin Garcia of Illinois for Aggravated DWI with Child 15 or Under as Passenger. Troopers on patrol in the city of Oneonta observed a vehicle on Main Street cross over the double yellow lines. A traffic stop was initiated, troopers discovered Garcia was intoxicated and had three children in the vehicle. Garcia was arraigned in the town of Laurens Court & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond.

The Guilford Historical Society will celebrate their 20th Anniversary with an Open House at their new home at the old Guilford Center Presbyterian Church on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. On Saturday at 4:47 PM, Tioga County 911 received numerous calls regarding an explosion, On Sunday, a continued search of the named areas resulted in a blast site being located in the vicinity of Diamond Valley Road, Town of Tioga. Investigation at the scene indicated an unknown type of explosive substance was detonated in a field causing no damage but leaving a hole in the ground. The New York State Police and FBI Bomb Disposal Units processed the site with evidence collected for analysis. Collected evidence is being forwarded to the FBI lab in Quantico, Virginia for chemical testing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the State Police at 687-3961.

State Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating 22-year-old Allyson Cheechalk-Buttman, who was reported missing by her mother. She left her residence on the morning of December 29th, and she may have traveled by bus to New York City, she was last seen wearing a light brown coat, green fleece, dark pants and black sneakers. She is a white female, 5’6”, 160 pounds, with brown-hazel eyes and medium brown hair. The public is asked to call the State Police at 775-1241 with information.

State Police arrested 31-year-old Anna Rodriguez of Binghamton for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol in a stolen vehicle after a pursuit in the town of Sanford on Sunday afternoon. Troopers observed a vehicle traveling on State Route 17 in the town of Sanford at 94 miles per hour. The vehicle stopped briefly, then fled at a high rate of speed and crashed a short time later; Rodriguez was taken into custody & was treated for minor injuries at Wilson Memorial Hospital and released. She was charged with driving while intoxicated, unauthorized use of a vehicle, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of marihuana, and numerous traffic violations. Rodriguez was arraigned in the village of Deposit Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail on bail.

King is accused of operating a motor vehicle while having a suspended status, with no driver’s license & for possessing marijuana. 33-year-old Lisa Bohigian of Sidney was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, for alleged possessing marijuana while visiting with her probation officer, they were released on appearance tickets on the possession charges & King was issued a Traffic Summons for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation for Delhi Court on March 18th.

Assembly Democrats are opposed to Governor Cuomo’s proposal for a property-tax freeze and will instead seek a plan to tie property taxes to household income. The governor has made the two-year tax freeze a hallmark of his 2014 agenda, but it’s facing growing opposition among lawmakers. Assembly speaker Sheldon Silver said the Democrat-led Assembly will propose a plan to tie property taxes to household income. The plan will be in the Assembly’s one-house budget. U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand unveiled a plan to make child care more affordable and accessible for working parents. Under the plan the maximum credit would rise from $1,050 to $3,000 per child by raising the percentage of the tax credit to 50%, doubling the amount of eligible expenses to $12,000. The tax credit would be refundable to help those who are working the most, but don’t earn enough to use the tax credit. Gillibrand is also a cosponsor of the Child Care and Development Block Grant Act, which was last reauthorized in 1996. Housing costs in New York rose sharply relative to income from 2000 to 2012, with more than ½ of renters, and more than 1/3 of homeowners paying at least 30% of their income for a place to live, according to State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli. Distribution of Greek yogurt, through the federal school lunch program, will expand to 12 states. The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced the expansion, they have been testing the Greek yogurt on school breakfast and lunch menus as a higher-protein alternative to regular yogurt. New York was 1of 4 states selected for the pilot program that began last year. The school lunch program will also be offered in the fall in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Idaho, Iowa, Illinois, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont and Washington.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office has charged 23 year old Jeffrey Blunk of Endwell with Criminal Possession of a Weapon Friday afternoon; he is accused of possessing a homemade explosive device. Blunk is also wanted by the State of Illinois in connection with possessing explosives and methamphetamine. The investigation in Broome County is continuing and other charges are likely in this case. Blunk was arraigned in the Town of Union Court and was be remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman today announced that he is leading a coalition of more than a dozen states in filing a friend-of-the-court brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which refuses to recognize for same-sex marriages valid under state law. The brief will be filed today in the case of United States vs. Windsor, other states involved in the filing include Massachusetts, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington and the District of Columbia.
