The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office announced that on Sunday, a reported missing person, 38 year old Nicholas Andrews of Preston was found deceased from injuries related to an ATV accident, in the Town of Preston area. Andrews was reported missing on March 14, after he had left his residence at approximately 6 PM on a white Polaris 4 wheeler. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Forest Rangers, State Search and Rescue Federation, and the Oxford Fire Department.

State Police were dispatched early Saturday morning to 162 Tim Hill Road in Marathon, Upon arrival, the Troopers determined that the 54-year-old male was suffering a mental health crisis and was in possession of a gun, while the Troopers were making contact with the man, he pointed the gun toward the Troopers. The man was shot by a Trooper and was immediately rendered medical care. No one else was injured. The male was transported by ambulance to Wilson Hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition. This is an on-going investigation, No names or other details have been released.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31 year old Carmine Yonnone of Delhi Friday following a traffic stop in the Town of Oneonta. Yonnone was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Consumption of Alcohol in a motor vehicle, among other charges, he was also found to have a Suspended Driver’s License, was was issued appearance tickets for a court appearance at a later date.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 47 year old Albert Deas of Schenevus following a traffic stop in the Town of Maryland. Deas was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, speeding and operating an uninspected vehicle, he was issued uniform traffic tickets and is set to appear in court at a later date.

Attorney General Letitia James & a coalition of 21 attorneys general, support a proposed Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives rule that would ensure more gun sales are subject to background checks. Following the passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the ATF proposed a new regulation to clarify what it means for a person to be “engaged in the business” of dealing in firearms, and therefore required to obtain a license and run background checks when selling guns, that rule would close loopholes that allowed for the unlicensed sale of firearms, including online and at gun shows.

State Comptroller’s office has completed audits of municipalities around the state, an audit of the Town of Colesville found that Officials did not always use a competitive process when purchasing goods or services and some officials were unfamiliar with the town’s procurement policy requirements. In the village of Greene, officials developed a comprehensive investment program but did not effectively manage the program, they did not prepare monthly cash flow forecasts to estimate funds available for investment or monitor investments and did not formally solicit interest rate quotes or consider other legally permissible investment options.

The Cornell Law School First Amendment Clinic and Greenberg Traurig, LLP filed suit against Delaware County, its Board of Supervisors, and its County Attorney Amy Merklin on behalf of news outlet The Reporter. The Complaint alleges that County officials violated the news outlet’s rights under the 1st & 14th Amendments when they revoked The Reporter’s designation as an official county paper in retaliation for its coverage, Attorney Heather Murray comments:

State Police is looking for the public’s assistance in identifying the 2 men who entered the Dollar General in Marathon on October 30th & purchased a gift card worth $500, allegedly using five fraudulent $100 bills. The men left in a dark colored sedan with what appeared to be a white license plate. State Police arrested 47 year old Jason Nugent of Vernon for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, after a trooper initiated a traffic stop of a vehicle speeding on State Highway 23 in the town of Plymouth. The trooper learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Utica, Nugent was arrested & was arraigned and is scheduled to appear in court on July 26th. Nugent was then turned over to New Hartford Police regarding another case.

State Police arrested 28 year old Benjamin Truitt of Marathon Tuesday for Grand Larceny. Truitt was arrested after an investigation of a report of a jet ski and trailer stolen in April from outside a residence in Marathon. Truitt allegedly hooked the trailer and jet ski to a vehicle and removed it from the property then putting it in the backyard of a residence on Front Street. The trailer and jet ski were ultimately returned to the owner. Troopers were another call Tuesday when they recognized Truitt, he was taken into custody, processed & was issued an appearance ticket to the town of Marathon Court on July 12th.

Republican Paul Battisti has won the primary in Broome County for the party nomination for District Attorney, over current DA Mike Korchak. Korchak announced that he would not run as a 3rd party candidate like he did tin the previous election 4 years ago & defeated republican Steve Cornwell. 24 year old Spencer Cummings of West Edmeston was arrested by Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies, for 2nd degree assault, Strangulation, Menacing & Unlawful Imprisonment following an investigation into a domestic dispute in the Town of Norwich. Cummings is accused of assaulting and choking a female victim, he was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment and remanded to the custody of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division on $150,000 cash bail. Cummings is due back in the Town of Norwich Court on a later date.

Oneonta Police are investigating the murder of a 24-year-old Kaleb O’Neill of Oneonta Monday. Oneonta Police Department received a 911 call of a male being stabbed in the alleyway of 6 Dietz Street, O’Neill had multiple stab wounds, 1st responders administered aid, he was transported to A.O. Fox Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. State Police Forensic Identification Unit and canine unit were called to the scene and an attempt to locate the suspects was undertaken but revealed no other information. The case remains under investigation by the Oneonta Police Department & State Police BCI & Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Oneonta Police Detective Division at (607) 432-1111.

State Police responded to a report of a motorcycle that crashed on I-81 Friday. A trooper located a Harley Davidson that had crashed into a guide-rail in the town of Marathon. The operator, 44 year old Daniel McPhillips of Throop, Pennsylvania was later located deceased, The investigation is on-going.

State Police arrested 21 year old Joseph Hayes of Middletown and 26 year old Cory Bartley of Fleischmanns for breaking a window at a synagogue in Fleischmanns, May 20th. Hayes and Bartley entered synagogue property, and Hayes threw a large rock at the building, breaking a window. Bartley also threw a rock at the building, which did not cause any damage. Hayes is charged with criminal mischief, criminal trespass, Bartley is charged with criminal mischief, Troopers issued both men appearance tickets returnable to Middletown town court on June 23.

Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond honored 14-year-old Rachel Trimbell of Walton with the 1st annual “Super Star” award.   Trimbell was riding a Walton Central School bus on the afternoon of March 27, when she observed a kindergarten student choking on a piece of candy. Trimbell performed the Heimlich maneuver on the student which ultimately saved the life of the young child.

 The Broome County Sheriff’s Department arrested 59 year old Pete Loher of Marathon on a charge of Cruelty to Animals.  Loher is accused of fatally his neighbor’s dog with a .22 caliber rifle; Loher was processed & was released on an appearance ticket for the town of Triangle Court at a later date.

The Disabled American Vets Mobile Service Office will be at the Sidney VFW at 133 West Main Street until 4:00 PM this afternoon.  Counselors are on hand to assist Vets with any issues they may have.

State Police and local law enforcement statewide will increase patrols to combat drunk, impaired and reckless driving throughout Memorial Day weekend.   The special enforcement period runs from Friday  through Monday, Memorial Day, which is traditionally one of the busiest travel holidays of the year and police will be out in force.

State Police released an update regarding the incident in the town of Springfield that left 1 man dead & an Otsego county Deputy injured.  The deceased suspect has been identified as 23 year old Matthew All, of Sharon Springs, on Tuesday, state troopers attempted to stop All for allegedly threatening someone with a knife, he took off & police pursued him, until he apparently crashed head on into the parked deputy’s vehicle near routes 20 & 80 in the town of Springfield. The unidentified Deputy was transported to Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, with serious but non-life threatening injuries, he was coherent at the scene. All was pronounced dead at the scene by Otsego County Coroner Michael Fox.  The investigation is on-going.

State Police are currently investigating a fatal accident that had occurred at about 3:52 a.m., this morning on Interstate Route 81 northbound, between the Marathon and McGraw exits. Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell announced that 49 year old Michael Gumaer pleaded guilty today In Broome County Court to 1st Degree Rape. Gumaer was arrested following the report of an attack on a 12-year-old Girl in August 2016 in Endicott. Gumaer will be sentenced on February 17th, 2017.

38-year-old Justin Barkley told a judge in Tompkins County Court that believed that he was shooting President Elect Donald Trump, at the Ithaca Wal-Mart parking lot on December 8th, and not UPS Driver William Schumacher. The judge has ordered Barkley to undergo a mental evaluation, to determine if Barkley is competent to stand trial. Barkley was taken into police custody after fleeing the scene, shooting at Police & engaging law enforcement in a standoff.

Nasoni was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where she was pronounced deceased. Tanner had a BAC of .21, he was charged with Vehicular Manslaughter, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, and Failure to Keep Right. Tanner was arraigned in the Town of Marathon Court and was remanded to the Cortland County Jail without bail.

The trial of State Senator Tom Libous of Binghamton is scheduled to begin today. Libous was indicted last year for allegedly making a false statement to the FBI, when he was questioned about using his political influence to get his son Matthew a job at a Westchester County Law firm. Employees at the Chenango County Office building were evacuated for a brief period today, after an extension cord overheated in an office, and led to smoke throughout the building. Deputies arrested 39-year-old Krzysztof Majewski for DWI following a traffic stop on County Rd 39 in the Town of Afton. Majewski is accused of operating the vehicle while intoxicated. Majewski was arraigned in the Town of Afton Court and held on $1,000 cash bail.

Oneonta Police arrested 19-year-old Harley Falasca of Tarrytown for Driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, & 2nd degree criminal trespass.  Police accuse Falasca of crashing his car, and leaving the scene, & for breaking into a home on Glen Drive to sleep.  Falasca later fled into the woods, where police apprehended him, he had a BAC of .18, and was issued tickets returnable to Oneonta town court at a later date.

The recent general Clinton canoe regatta could have been a lot more difficult for paddlers this year, if it were not for the efforts of area fire departments who responded to help out after high swift waters created problems.  Regatta Chairman John Harmon comments:

Chenango county sheriff’s department Detectives arrested 56-year-old Robert Baker of Plymouth for 2 counts of endangering the Welfare of a Child.  A complaint was forwarded to the department from the New York State Child Abuse Hot Line, where Baker was accused of exposing himself to the children.  He was arraigned in the Town of Plymouth Court and remanded to the Chenango county jail $2500 cash bail.  The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending following the examination of evidence seized.

State Police arrested 26-year-old Tavish Braman of Greene for DWI, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangerment, Criminal Mischief and multiple violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law. The arrest resulted from of an aggressive driving incident on I-81 in Marathon.  Braman was arraigned in the Town of Willet Court and remanded to the Cortland County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail pending court action on June 19th.

The Chenango county sheriff’s department arrested 50-year-old Phillip Brown of Morris for DWI, driving with BAC .08 of alcohol, and failure to keep right.   Brown was arrested following a traffic stop for moving violations in the Town of Sherburne, where officers determined that Brown was operating the motor vehicle in an intoxicated state.   Brown will appear in the Town of Sherburne Court at a later date.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 42-year-old Rae Clarkson of McDonough for Petty Larceny and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.   Clarkson was charged following the report of shoplifting at an Oxford business; Clarkson is accused of stealing items from the store without paying for them while in the presence of a child under the age of 17.   Clarkson was issued appearance tickets and will appear in the Village of Oxford court at a later date.

State troopers in Norwich arrested 25 year old Robert Robertson of Coventry  for 3rd degree Assault, 2nd degree Unlawful Imprisonment, 4th degree Criminal Mischief 4th and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The arrest resulted from a dispute on State Route 206 in Coventry; Robertson was arraigned in the Town of Coventry Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.

Delaware County Deputies investigated a 1-car property damage auto accident in the Town of Hamden.  18-year-old Brynna Elliott of Marathon was operating her motor vehicle when she left the snow-covered roadway and struck an earth embankment causing her vehicle roll over.  There were no reported injuries and no traffic summons issued.
