45-year-old Scott Mawhiney of Deposit was sentenced to 30 years to life in jail in Broome County Court today, after he was convicted in November of 1st degree attempted murder, among other charges, Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak commented at a press conference in Binghamton This Morning:

Trooper Ryan Thorp was wounded on June 23rd after responding to a report of a dispute in the Village of Deposit, Trooper Thorp required several surgeries to his arm following the shooting.

The State Health department & the Governor’s Office reported that COVID 19 numbers continue to decrease. Statewide on Wednesday over 191,000 testes were conducted with 9418 testing positive, for a positivity rate of 4.9%. Patient Hospitalizations were down by 450 to 6,177, the number in an ICU Bed was down by almost 100 to 995, with 563 on Ventilators, a decrease of 78. there were 114 deaths from COVID in hospital & Nursing homes Wednesday.

New York’s newly proposed State Assembly and Senate maps were signed into law by Governor Hochul Thursday night. Both chambers of the State Legislature voted to approve both sets of maps earlier Thursday.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar stated that 209 drivers in Broome County were caught illegally passing school buses in January, with the School Bus Stop Arm Cameras. The county recorded 203 violations in September, 256 violations in October 2021 and 294 violations in December.
